And although it was a mere $159 for the Sapphire HD 4850, I absolutely love it.

I came from a long line of Nvidia cards, some that cost over $400, and unfortunately my most recent one was a 7900GT.

I never ran such high in game settings, and certainly no AA. This Sapphire card just makes games so much better looking, it's really amazing.

I also love the Catalyst program. Overall this card was easily the best deal I've ever seen for a video card.

Thank you ATi!

I just came back to ATI from a few years of using NVIDIA cards and I gotta say that Edge Detect AA IQ on the HD 4850 looks sweet.

Congrats! I used to be an avid follower of nVidia (even had an FX5900), but switched to ATI around the x1950 series.

And I bought a 3870 for $200 only a couple months before the 4xxx series came out. :-(

It is a very nice card.. but I now want a 4850 or 4870... or maybe even a 4870x2 (drool)....

Yeah the 3870 was the start of Ati, to get back into the game.
Still a very nice card even though it catn keep up with 8800 GT.
=) I have two of them.

The HD2900 wasn't such a bad card. The reason why it was a disappointment was because it arrived more than 6 months late and underperformed (against the 8800GTX). I have a HD2900Pro in my system right now (about to be replaced by a 4870x2...) and it has served me VERY well. The HD2x00 series was ATI's GeForce FX. Another disappointing product, that was late and underperformed, but wasn't that bad (my FX5900 served me very well also, lol).

congrats and enjoy, it's been a while since I went back to ATi,....but so far so good

my last ati card was a 9800xt, what a great card at the time. I just ordered a 4870x2, will be my first ati in awhile.

Welcome to the ranks of buying whichever card is best at the time! I've gone GF2 -> GF4Ti -> X800 -> 8800GT.

Just get whats best for the money when you want to upgrade! Thats ATI right now!

Lawlz
GF2 i remember those wished the Vodoos was still around, and in the graphic card run, would make prices drop even more.
Vodoo -> 6600 GT -> X800XT -> 8600 GT -> 8800 GTS 320 -> 8800 GT 512 + 3870 Toxic

I never had an ATI until June.

Bought two 3870s and haven't looked back.

Now have a 4870 X2 and a single 4870 in Crossfire.
I have the same impressions as you. Great graphics and the CCC isn't half bad compared to nTune......of course, a pile of shit works better than nTune.

Nvidia has great cards, don't get me wrong, but I am more than satisfied with my recent defection to the red team.

It's my second ATI card after a previous Radeon 7000 :) Just called them the ATI Radeon in those days.

Was nVIDIA ever since then, and a died in the wool nVIDIA FANBOYZZZ!11!!@!11

Yep, I'm also super happy with my 4850. Now I'm an ATI FANBOYZ!11!!@!!!@! :D

voodoo 5-->GF3-->6600GT SLI-->6800gt--> 7800GTX--> 7950GT--> 8800GT-->4850 and wow it reminds me of the voodoo 5 cause it kicks so much a$$ :)

Wow, im just the opposite, ive followed ati since the 7500 series and just 2 months ago picked up my 8800gs. i gotta say i dont miss the drivers altho i hope they clean them up, they really have everything going for them this round.

I've had a ton of ATI cards over the years but I've had more NVIDIA than ATI cards overall. I haven't had any ATI cards until recently. The last ATI card I had was an X1950Pro that was thrown into a spare machine. Before that I had a pair of X1950XTX's in Crossfire. Yesterday I received my HiS 4870 X2. So that's the first ATI card to grace my gaming machine since November 2006.

I could never afford the high end cards from nvidia when they jsut came out ... 8800 GTS 640 was exp. wasn't untill my room mate let one go and i decided to buy it form him.
And the GT's i jsut got years after their release. LOL but the 3870 i was able to get few montsh after release. I could have been able to afford a 4850 if i have had waited LOL.

I havent had an ATi Card since the 128MB 9700Pro. And it was awesome.

Thinking that when I perform my next build, it will have an ATi card as well... The Price/Performance makes it that much more worth it.

i still use my gx2 today, but i gotta say my ati 9250 pci card is the most reliable....i always use it to test random motherboards

i can kick it around, scratch it, throw it in a corner, and it still keeps working :)

Haha, wow looking at some of these posts some people really do upgrade very often! Personally I've only gone from:

TNT2 Vanta 64MB -> Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB -> X1800XT 256MB -> X1950XT 256MB -> HD4850

Strangely enough it seems that every time I'm ready to upgrade I was always able to get a better deal on ATI cards - never having to spend more than $200 for a new card. :) Personally, within each respective generation, though, I think the 9800 Pro and my current HD4850 have been the greatest purchases that I've made thus far in terms of bang for buck. Sadly, the X1800XT and X1950XT both have/had artifacting issues (however, the X1800XT was RMAed through Newegg and currently chugs along in a friend's computer) and coincidentally both were from Sapphire. It's sad considering my ATI branded 9800 Pro still works perfectly fine to this day. Here's hoping that this Visiontek will last long enough to be passed on to older rigs in the future.

In any case, congrats on switching over to the Red team! And may the Catalyst be with you. :D

Yea, I have an ATI Xpert 128 that is as durable (it was the first video card I bought, in order to play Tribes 2). ::Bowing down in envy::

Seems like you've owned just about every computer geek's wet dreams! :D Would you say you're also an avid collector of video cards? ;)

I'd be an avid collector of them if I actually kept them.
