So BFG 5900nu or Powercolor 9700pro or Sapphire 9800pro?

Basically I can get the following: (CA tax included)

BFG 5900nu for ~180shipped, Powercolor ~220shipped or Sapphire 9800pro for ~250shipped.

Which card is the best price/performance combo right now?

This card is for a second gaming system which will be used but not nearly as much as my main. My main system now has a 9700pro in it. I was also thinking about putting the 9700pro in my second system I'm building now and upgrade my main to the sapphire 9800pro.

However my main question is, is the 9800pro really worth the 70 dollar cost over the 5900nu and to replace my 9700pro?

If you have a 9700 Pro, I would keep it. No need to upgrade. If you are set on upgrading, I'd get the 9800NP and go for the Pro flash or speeds.

I'd go for the 5900nu and save yourself some cash, you already have the 9700pro in your main rig, and the 5900nu will be great for the 2nd system.
Then, in about 6 months you can put out some money and get something next gen, don't spend more than you need to now.

At least thats my 2cents...

Well I'm building a second system. I don't necessarily need to upgrade my 9700pro. Was just curious if the $70 difference was worth getting a 9800pro over the 5900nu. If I were to spring for the 9800pro, I'd put my 9700pro in the second system.

I'm leaning toward keeping my 9700pro and grabbing a 5900nu for the second machine. Am I nuts for not springing the extra cash for the 9800pro or is the 5900nu a good choice?

Yeah I'm thinking the same at this point. Maybe upgrade my main card next year when the NV40 or R420's are down in price.

Yeah, I need to read slower. For a second system, the 5900NU is fine. I wouldn't bother with a 9700->9800 upgrade.

The simple answer is find some benchmarks and see for yourself.

If it's not going to be used so much, I'd be loathe to spend much on the card for a second machine. You can buy a 5900nu relatively cheaply now, and swap it for your 9700pro when you eventually upgrade your main rig.

As it is, you'll not see enough difference between the 9700pro and the 9800pro to justify an upgrade now imo.

No, it's not worth the $70 difference. Especially since a BFG 5900nu can OC easily to a 5950, which then gives you more performance.

No you're not nuts. And the 5900nu is the much better choice.

You'll get greater performance and more bang-for-the-buck with the BFG 5900nu. In fact, once you see it in use, don't be surprised if you suddenly want it in your main rig.

The BFG 5900nu will oc to 5950u's speeds. So chances are..... the 5900 will be as fast as your 9700pro when its all said and done for 40 bucks less

How much do you want to spend?

I ended up buying a 5900 for $180 shipped. The reason the prices are more expensive is because I have to pay for CA sales tax. Not many out of CA stores with wonderful feedback ratings that had these type of deals. I wish Newegg and others would move out of CA and into oregon. :)

I agree hehe, although I was thinking Nevada would be a good spot for Newegg.
