Nintendo has released a new SNES Classic Edition trailer that demonstrates a number of useful features: these include rewind, which allows players to start over without losing their progress. Suspend points will also allow gamers to save anywhere, and twelve different background frames will be available for those who don’t like black.

This is their answer to the emulators and the many ROMs of SNES games that get downloaded. Thumbs up to Nintendo

I'm going to try to order one when it is announced as a potential Xmas present for my kids. However, if I get one and it turns out like last year's disaster, I will have no problem selling it for a lot more than I paid on eBay.

Good thing I picked Nintendo in the 80s and skipped Sega, now I can enjoy Sega classics on the PC while Nintendo is an ass.

You already missed out

"Further Update: Super NES Classic pre-orders were up for a brief moment at Wal-Mart starting at 1 p.m. ET, but appear to have sold out in less than a minute. Targets pre-orders went up about 15 minutes later and sold out within a couple of minutes."

The other 2 sold out at 4am. It's a bigger disaster than the nes classic lol.

i hate gamestop with a passion but got mine preordered there a little bit ago in store. already told boss at work release day i will be in do not disturb mode after lunch that day, and never mind why teh monitors used to display alerts is showing super metroid instead.

I signed up for text alerts from Gamestop; got an alert that this was available for ore-order, clicked the link and the pre-order was apparently already sold out. Then their site went down for maintenance. Comedy. If you want one of these things, forget pre-order or ordering online it seems. I was able to pick up an NES classic by just checking retail stores periodically.

GameStop did store only preorders from what I read/was told.

I went to one right after I saw that news online and I was one person away from snagging one. I also failed at getting it from Target even though I had the preorder in my cart and went through the checkout only for it to bomb out at the end with 'sorry that item is unavailable'.

Nintendo sucks.

5 minutes.

This blind grab for Nintendo products is stupid. Nintendo really needs to learn supply and demand.
Learn what? They have a monopoly over the product and can do as they please. People need to learn to not buy into the bullshit. As it is, people are foaming at the mouth about not being able to give Nintendo their money, when that's the last thing they should be doing if they aren't happy with their business practices.

Lol that's not how any of this works.

No thanks Nintendo, I'll stick with my actual Super Famicom and SNES, thank you. StarFox 2 isn't enough to get me to spend that kind of cash on an emulation box, especially not when they are sold at extreme markups due to "rarity." And with Everdrives, I can run the leaked SF2 ROM on the actual hardware. SF/SNES is one of my most favorite systems of all time, but that's why I always keep all my consoles, and continue to play them to this day. With the wealth of advanced emulation we've had available on PC for a great many years, not sure why they expect me to buy this thing. NES Classic was a small Linux PC, wasn't it? Yeah, those things are real fucking hard to manufacture. Better off just making your own. Pretty sure the SNES Classic will be the same type deal. We'll see if you can manage to produce more than 3 units a month, Nintendo. Maybe actually have some fucking units to sell? Judging by how quick this initial pre-order sold out though, my guess is that we'll have another shitshow like with the NES Classic. Maybe make the controller cords a little longer this time, if you're gonna force people to use the Wii Classic Controller ports. Not enough games, and too many notable omissions. So yeah I'll pass on it. Not that I would be able to get one if I wanted to.

This is crazy. I guess I'll live out my life having never owned a Nintendo product (even though I was going to buy the NES and SNES). Shrugs.

I think they play by their rules and as such can lose a shit ton of money a year and still not be negative. What's the article say? The can lose 250million yen a year and still not be negative for 38 years?

It sucks for the people who don't get it, but Nintendo is probably playing it safe and just releasing what they want and making what they need off it.

It's a pretty stupid response.
They've build up such a huge demand they have no intention to meet.
The idea to make it limited and collectable means a group of people will still be using emulators and ROMs.
Probably more now than before due to the increased media attention.

And they pad their bottom line while not taking a major risk? I can understand disappointing response, but stupid? I don't think so.

That same emulator group made releasing the NES classic a hit or miss. Nintendo probably didn't have any idea how much a niche item would make. Not they are releasing these glorified raspberry pi's and making a decent bank of it, pretty much not have to take any risk, and add shit ton more money into the incredible amount of liquid money they already have.

A good attempt no doubt. Emulators still reign supreme for retro console gaming, especially with all the great filters you can implement.

I must be one of the few folks out there that does not like Nintendo games.
Link to the past and Super Metroid are some of the best games ever made and still hold up today. Between that and 3rd party SNES is arguably the best system ever made.

I suppose I didn't elaborate enough. It's a great device that is in short supply even before it's released. I'd love to pick one up but it's just fodder for scalpers. Who won't be getting any of my money.

They can feign ignorance of the demand for the NES classic. They should have had a solid idea of the demand for the SNES classic.

Releasing a trailer after preorders have been sold out is just being a dick.

It really shows how clueless Nintendo is. The Switch is turning out to be a success.. But they've been squandering their classic library for years. They could very nearly have an infinite money tree if they mass produced a 'classic' version of all their classic consoles and have an e-shop of sorts that would allows publishers to re-release their old titles on the classic system.

You and I can agree to that. Nintendo the company I respect, but I also think mentality wise they can be pretty much a dick and way to conservative for my taste. I mean look how they treated cell phone games with their IP, Exactly this with the sale of the SNES Mini, and they are outright responsible for Sony kicking their asses with a the original playstation. They were also extremely dicks back in the 80's with their policies towards publishers.

But I do think of them far from stupid. But I'm consistently shocked and disappointed with them as I've grown further and further away from my 13 year old self who fell in love with the NES and SNES.

Stupider that not responding to the demand at all? Refusal to release these classics is a direct cause piracy.

I'd say one of the shining stars concerning emulators is their save state feature. When I have replayed Dragon Warrior 4 on NES, I used the save states to cheat at the casino.
