SmoothWall + bulletproof ftp=not working

How do you setup it up so it can work.I been reading the how on smoothwall and i still don't get it. help
 
Are you trying to access the FTP server from the same network or from an external address. If from an external address do you have a nat setup?(usually are you using a router?)

Anything else about your current setup would help.
 
external address is what i'm trying to setup. I just get a little confuse on the port forwarding. I don't even know if i have a nat setup.
 
Most routers come with NATs, login to it and go to the games/applications tab. Then forward port 21 (or whatever your FTP is on) to the internal address of the server. ex: 192.168.1.* or 10.242.*
 
also why smoothwall slow down my internet, from 1700kb on windows xp ICS to 400kb on smoothwall setup?
 
I really have no idea. I would remove smoothwall from the equation until you get the FTP server working.
