This is nothing new. If it has a USB port it can be modified to include hardware. It is precisely why my bank does not allow anything to be plugged into the USB ports other than company supplied keyboards and mice. It's trivial to wire something like this to the USB port and hide it inside the casing of something like a larger vape unit.

Definitely a click bait article because anyone that knows about IT security has known about this stuff for years.
