Jon Bach, president of Puget Systems, a boutique builder many of our long-time readers are familiar with, said that Microsoft has given the green light to small system builders like his company to ship PCs with Windows 7 installed before the official release date of 10/22. PC World has the details on what Jon said and the dates they'll start shipping systems running W7.

"The great thing for us is that we'll be able to install Windows 7 on new computers before Oct. 13, since Windows 7 allows installation without a product key." said Bach. "Then on the 13th, after we have the product keys from our distributor, we can pop them in and start shipping immediately.”

I saw this, its a pretty sweet deal for the smaller companies and potentially helps them get a jump on sales over the gigantic dells and hps. Although, im sure HP and Dell are less than excited.

HP and Dell probably couldn't care less. They sell machines to buisnesses and mainstream consumers, both of who couldn't care less about getting a machine with Windows 7 a week or so earlier. But it's a nice gesture by Microsoft.
