Slowest computer I used in a looooong time (cloudy)

The cheap Azure instance. $6 per month. ARM Neoverse-N1 r3p1. Not complaining about the price, but...

CPU is 3x slower than the similar price AWS EC2 instance, which is a part of a Xeon.

I/O crippled in both throughput and iops, down to HD levels, and I mean an old HD (ec2 only in throughput but has good iops).

I wonder whether anybody has any stats for the cheap instances on GCP and Oracle, or other cloud providers?

Microsoft is not exactly advertising ARM here :)

Hah. Karma strikes.

Fiddled with my EC2 small instance and ended up on a slightly slower Xeon. That's cloud for you.

What are your requirements? Does it need to be ARM, or will a small cloud VM be enough?

For example, Atlantic.net has a small VM (VPS) for $9/month.
$10/month
2GB RAM
1 vCPU
50GB SSD
3 TB Transfer

I'm just curious, no specific requirements. I like benchmarking new computers and I practice cloud running from the CLI.

That VPS sounds good.

I forget exactly what ARM CPUs are being used on the Oracle infrastructure, but they allow a surprisingly high amount of resources on their free tier. 4 CPU (ARM, either 2.8 or 3.2 GHz I want to say?), 24GB RAM, and 1Gbps NIC per CPU. Then on top of that two free x86 shitboxes with 1cpu/1GB/500mbps NIC each. Total storage for all combined <=200GB fits within the tier, so like 50GB for both of the shitboxes and then a 4-core/100GB or 2x2-core/50GB.

Be advised, if I remember correctly, there was an initial 'trial' period of 90 days or so, and it continued to be free since my resource allocation fit within the parameters above, but they did nuke what I had deployed when that period ran up. Had to redeploy.

Admittedly, there are a couple of concerns that linger with me:
1) How sustainable is this/at what point does the rug get pulled?
2) What part of your soul gets sold to pay for that much 'free'?
