Hello,

I have this weird problem, I have a Pentium 3 1GHZ in Cross-Over with a AMD 64 3500+ computer.

I have internet sharing set up as well as mapped drives to the drives of each other.

The internet speed on the Pentium 3 is provided by the AMD computer. The P3 computer gets the maximum internet speed that my ISP offers which is 300kb/sec, but when I transfer a file over the network using the mapped drives it takes about 30 minutes for a 100mb file.

Both computers are using 100mbps network cards. I don't understand why it is taking so long to transfer a file, yet the internet speed is very fast through the same network cable.

You might have your NICs set to 10base. In windows you check the properties under the advanced tab

try setting the one set to TP full to auto and the other on to 100 full duplex.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but TP just means twisted pair. People that write drivers label thing in a strange wat sometimes. If those setting changes don't help, Maybe a driver issue?

Forcing both to 100/full is always the best answer. Auto detect still has major issues.

Otherwise, ensure that local client policies aren't in effect that would negotiate communication with certificates. I've seen file transfers via SMB that would take 40 minutes reduced to 40 seconds when the certificate exchange was eliminated. Mostly happens when one client is an AD Domain Controller and the other is an XP client.
