Simple XP customization Qs

1 - i no longer recall and could not relocate the way to change the system icons, like my computer and the trash bin. anyone know how ?

2- my system boots into the log-in window that says welcome and an icon nearby that i have to click before i enter the desktop. question is how do i boot directly to the desktop ?

powertoys was able to alter the log-on. i no longer need to click on anything. a small
blue welcome screen appears briefly and from there proceeds automatically to the
desktop.

but . . but . .. but. . . powertoys had no options to alter the system desktop icons.
i know there is a much simpler method of doing this through windows but - bangs
head - i can't relocate the method.
