SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

I miss playing the old Sim Cities, but I think I only played I and II, I might have played III but I definitively do not remember a IV. There was an IV? was it any good? I need to go searching, please god be on Steam if so.

edit
Oh how far I am in times.

simcity 4 is awesome. but a lot of people have issues getting the game to play on more modern hardware.

not sure why this double posted since i put it in my last post but oh well.

where the heck is simcity 4 20 bucks? you should be able to find it for 5 dollars unless its the version with all the simcity games included.

I'm excited but I'm almost expecting that a week before release EA pulls out something from left field and ruin our dreams once again.

"...We nailed it..."

holy shit I'm so excited for this....but we have to wait until 2013 :(

Noooo! That is a long time :(

I wish I can find that meme pic but I'll share a phrase in the same spirit:
"The wait is too damn long!."

:D

Hopefully EA Maxis/SimCity EA gets it right, and it doesn't turn into another Sim City Societies game. :(

Can not wait.

How many in here have heavily modded SC4? I play it on 1920x1080 and have the occasional screen tearing at the edges of the map, but no real issues.

Installing the NAM mod really changes how the game is played. There are so many downloadable buildings that are ploppable and not. For the guy asking for sea walls, check out Pegasus (simpeg.com). Most of the mods and community DLC is on Simtropolis as well os other places like sc4devotion. Some of the file exchange places you need an invite, but theyre easy to obtain. I have a farming mod so I create entire cities that are rural farming communities. They implemented farming med industry as well as rural commercial and residential to keep the farming community a farm. I also have a pure industry/power city that commutes to a larger commercial/residential city and all make money and prosper. The mods make it possible.

Too bad I have to wait till 2013. First Stalker 2 gets postponed and possibly cancelled, now I have to wait till 2013 for a new SimCity:(

Yikes. Guess I've been out the loop with "Sim" games once "The Sims" rolled out, I gave up on the Franchise.

I was pretty surprised when I looked at the release date to answer your question. I didn't think it was that long. Makes me feel old.

SC4 in itself isn't the greatest, it's the community that makes it the best Sim City in the serie.

The amount of content you can download for that game is mind blowing

That's exactly what made it the greatest.

The amount of 3rd party content is staggering.

My friend is already making a list of devious things he wants to do when we get the game.

Since I'm very much conscious of both socioeconomic needs and environmental issues, my friend wants to build a city full of heathens, criminals and polluting industry next to me just to piss off my citizens. Lol.

I'll just refuse to trade to him any electrical power and clean water, and let him keep his own trash in his city. Hahaha.

TBH i actually never played SC the way it's supposed to be played so I'm looking forward to living out my control freak gamer fantasies by building an airport hub city, and a casino town.

"We know modding is hugely important to our community," Quigley noted. "We know the reason why people are still playing SimCity 4 ten years later is because the modding community has kept it alive. GlassBox is built to be moddable, but beyond that we haven't announced anything," he added.

He also said "we're using the same package format The Sims and SimCity 4 used," which should make it easier for SimCity 4 modders to make the jump to GlassBox.

Awesome.

Best news so far

Quigley? That name looks familiar.

I think you guys are mistaken when you say the original SimCity 4 wasn't great, but that the community made it great. Make no mistake. The original SimCity 4 was EPIC, not in the amount of content that it had, but in its entire simulation engine, all of the variables that made it into a complex game that scaled to the user's creativity or architectural capabilities. What user's provided after that were modifications and tweaks to the base engine, as well as a shit load of additional buildings / user interface / transportation-based content.

There was a time when I would spend days upon days with paper and pencil laid out in front of me, designing my transportation network and graphing the theoretical traffic flows.

Simcity 2000 was my first PC game. The way things are going, how this is looking. I'm excited as a middle aged housewife for a vampire.

That's pretty [H]

I have a ploppable bank that allows me to get a large sum of money whenever, say 5 million. I would design my entire road network first, for the entire map. I'd zone and plop everything after that and let it grow. If I ran into bottlenecks I would either add more mass transit or modify the roadway design. I have a few "cities" with nothing buy a highway going through them to theoretically connect two large metropolis' on opposite sides of a mountain range.

Four staff members from Maxis answered questions about SimCity and the engine.

Kip Katsarelis = Lead Producer
Ocean Quigley = Creative Director
Dan Moskowitz = Senior Software Engineer
Andrew Willmott = Chief Architect

These people were involved in answering the questions.

All the questions, and answers into a convenient google document can be viewed here,

"16) teslasmash:

There's a lot of excitement about the Glass Box engine... was it designed to be a little more extensible than just Simcity? Perhaps with other future games in mind?
i.e. DICE's Frostbite engine is being used (or planned to be used) in other EA games. Was this in mind when developing Glass Box?

Maxis:
[Andrew] Definitely! In fact, it started off life as a general simulation engine we could use to revisit previous titles (SimAnt!), and explore new sim game ideas with. The idea to do a new SimCity came later. We have some ambitious plans here, but for now SimCity is the main focus."

hell yeah... best answer in that whole Q&A. :D
