Waiting on my TJ08-E to come from newegg. Its been in the process of being shipped for almost 2 weeks now, haha.

    Build is going to be

    I7 2700k
    6950 2GB
    Z68 Gene
    8GB HyperX
    Seasonic X660

Right now I can get a H50 off retail edge for points (free), would that be sufficient for cooling the i7 in the tj08, or should I invest in a better Air or water alternative?

Wanted to report back on the Phobya G-18 Silent 180mm fan. Arrived today and just got finished installing a little while ago.

Replacing the 180mm fan requires that you take off both sides, the top cover, front cover, HDD cage and then remove the 4 screws holding the fan and the 2 screws holding the switch. The Phobya is 25mm wide so it adds a little extra room between the fan and the HDD cage.

When they say silent they mean it or damn close. You can hear it if you put your head by the case, but I have the case on a rack down below so about 3' from the bottom of the case to where my head is and it really is just a gentle hum now.

I had an issue getting the AP181 to start up on low with my Gigabyte mobo SYS_FAN header, but the Phobya starts right up and is near silent as it is only spinning around 400-450 rpm. Top level is 700 rpm. Huge improvement over the AP181. Temp's running Prime 95 just got a little over 50º C, so cooling just fine with the Phobya and Scythe PWM on the CPU cooler.

Really, really impressed with this fan and changes the acoustics of the case immensely.

The number of screws (and the number of very small screws) that are required to swap out the fan is ridiculous though. Not sure why they did not use tabs like other cases to pop on the front cover as the little screws are very easy to strip so take your time removing them.

i checked the dimensions and it seems that it should fit, but does anyone know if a Thermalright True Spirit 120 will fit?

on an unrelated note i saw this comment back a few pages and thought it was funny.

Sorry I didn't follow up on this earlier, but did you try running the AP181 on high when connected to your mobo SYS_FAN header? The AP181 on high can start as low as 5V so it can spin down to around 500rpm.

LOL thats my case. Its pointed that way as i have the gpu fan pulling air up towards the psu. That way the gpu fan and psu fan are working together. Also hot air rises so if you have the psu orientated the other way you are relying on the fan at the bottom of the case to exhaust all the hot air in the case which i would imagine would be pretty inefficient and shit for temps.

Thank you for this post.. I have largely the same components ordered, due to arrive Tuesday 12/20

Having found the TJ08-E's Fan club on Overclock.net, I see that a bunch of folks... had the same issue of no rpm on low with the AP181, and went the Phobya 180's route.

Guess I should order Phobya 180 today, so that I can swap that fan first, before actually building it out, right?

Still feel it made a good difference? And Air flow remains good or better with the Phobya?

    Thanks

No temp issues as you can tuck wires away pretty easily. I only have the Phobya fan up front and Scythe PWM fan on my CPU cooler and things have stayed very cool. Granted I am not overclocking anymore as the i5 chips are plenty fast at stock speeds.

Hi guys, I think there maybe some misunderstanding here regarding the AP181 fan we ship with the TJ08-E.

If you are trying to slow the fan speed down either via a separate fan speed controller device or by connecting to your motherboard's fan header (that offers fan speed adjustment), please leave the fan speed switch on the TJ08-E on high. This will allow you to input voltage as low as 5V, which will enable AP181 fan to run at around 500rpm (giving you slower than the default 700rpm at low setting for AP181).

Some of you may notice the fan stops when switching the fan speed switch to low on the TJ08-E, this is due to insufficient voltage as AP181 on low requires 10V to start.

If you still have questions regarding my explanation above, please feel free to ask!

So, what your saying is, re the complaints that the fan on high is too loud... set the switch to HIGH, but lower the voltage in the bios to that header to say 5V..which will still enable the fan to start and run quieter..@ 500 rpm's?

the 10v requirement to start..is only when the switch is set to low?

That would work fine for those that have a SYS_FAN header on their mobo that can be controlled, but for others like mine (GA-P55M-UD2) there is no option in BIOS, SpeedFan, etc. to control the fan connected to this header. The starting voltage is too high on Low and when on High, the board does not provide a way to control it.

If I did a 7v mod on it, that might have worked but again it would need to be left on high to allow the 7v mod to work due to the higher required starting voltage on Low.

The AP181 is fine if you can keep it from running at full speed, which in my case I could not.

Silent PC Review has a full review of the case and includes discussion on the AP181 fan starting on page 5: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1215-page5.html

On my Maximus Gene, I put the AP 181 on a fan header, set it to high, and used the fan control software to turn it down. Now it's really quiet. If you have a seperate fan controller you could do the same thing. Very happy with it.

I'm using the software in the ASUS AI Suite, Fan Xpert is what it is called. It gives you a Low / Med / High setting to auto adjust the fan speeds depending on temps as you see fit. It can be downloaded from ASUS's website or installed from the CD.

Now just off the top of my head, I am guessing it's probably doing around 600rpm, the settings allow you to take chassis fans down to 40% if I recall.

Nice! Looking forward to pics, soon as I can I will get some pics of my setup, Wife has a new camera coming in soon.

    PS07-
Yup it's exactly that, same chassis, different front bezel and 2x120mm vs 1x180mm.

Interested to see how it does!

I was thinking about adding a window to my PS07.

Has anyone used this window kit from FrozenCPU?

Sounds like if you wanted to you could change out the Plexi for different colors, etched Plexi, or whatever you wanted when you wanted a change of scenery.

I just got my black braiding and heat shrink for the header cables :)

Whaa? Ok, well might have to uninstall the whole program, and re-install, I am pretty sure it would be on the original CD as mine was. When you install AI it should actually have a list of features to install or not to install.

    -8gb gskill ripjaws x ddr3 1600mhz
    -evga gtx460 1gb SC EE

    -dvd combo drive
-hitachi 500gb hdd (hidden in second 5.25 bay)
