I shrunk a partition and expected to have one partition and another unallocated. Instead I have one partition and TWO unallocated. For some reason it divided the unallocated partition into two random size partitions. One of the unallocated is 230GB the other is 746GB. I can create a partition on the 230GB one, but have no options to create a volume out of the 746GB one. What the heck is going on?

Update: I fixed it, it had to be GPT.

What is going on? I merged the main partition and the 230GB partition, but that 746GB partition is unusable. I can't create a partition out of it, or merge it with the main partition.
