Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

Does anyone else see a jagged separation between the red and orange colors in this image? All of the other colors blend together smoothly but the red and orange have an obvious line between the two which looks like it's made up of many blocks. I just purchased two new Samsung 245T monitors and everything looks great except for this. I notice the same thing with black colors in certain images. I'm just curious if it's the image or the monitor.

Its called banding. It happens with TN panels because it is 6 bit. It can happen with *VA and IPS but usually doesn't.

Please stop quoting other people images over again.

is synergy a remote desktop type program? Is it open source? link?

It basically sets up 1 box as the host and the other as a client and lets you just go from display to display sharing a kb/mouse (without needing a kvm). I just have it setup so ctrl+1 is my laptop, ctrl+2 is my desktop at work. Also works in linux and i have mixed a windows host with a linux client before with no issues.

I'm lazy, put the tags on them...So I don't have to click, cuz I'm not gonna..lol

oh ok lemme do it

Edit: All done:)

You got an awsome system, but that desk has got to go.

It is just not right for the setup that you got.

The little monitor should be on the side and that Amazing large screen should be smack in the middle.

The shelving unit while handy I am sure, needs to go. Not sure if it is removable, if so get rid of it.

Your best bet if you can afford it, is to go to ikea and get yourself a nice clean setup, they are pretty cheap.

From the looks of it, it seems like your workspace is "unbalanced" and makes you work on angles. It actually is not a bad desk, just not right for your setup.

To be clear. Your setup is awsome. Just not matched by the desk\workstation.

BTW, you asked for constructive input, so I am providing it ;)

Not bad for a 14 yearold. I'm only 2 years older then you. You can see my setup 2 pages back.

More MP doesn't make it a better camera. It's quality not quantity, when it comes to cameras. I know, I have a Nikon D70 it a lowly 6MP but man those photos look great.

Learning things new everyday :) Thank you and also thanks for saying the photos look great cause u kno imma camera prodigy lolol xD

Yep... very common mis-conception...

I have a Panasonic DMC-fz7 which is 6 megapixels... then a Nikon D100 DSLR which is... 6 megapixels...

FZ7 is terrible in comparison... Ofcourse it's 1/10th the price :)

While you guys discuss megapickels I am certain that I am the only person in this thread with a monitor setup taken with B&W FILM =)

Very nice it looks like a professional took it:O Nice setup also.:D

Could be your graphics card drivers and settings, or even the monitor. I don't have the problem on my 8800GTX with Westinghouse LVM-37W3.

Okay I hooked one of the monitors up to my laptop and the banding was gone so it doesn't appear to be the monitor. I'm running both monitors from an 8800GTS with the latest drivers and I've played with every setting I can find but I'm not having any luck. Is there generally a specific setting to focus on to correct banding?

No, actually! Somewhere (~400 miles away) I have some photos of my setup from last year taken on FP4 & XP2.

As Per 2008 Workstation Thread...

Specs in Sig, any comments or questions, Im happy to answer.

ahhh homework in front of the computer
You've touched on what I consider to be the major benefit of flat panel displays. Unless you have a deep desktop, to consult books and papers while using CRTs you either had to place the materials to one side of the keyboard or angle the CRT askew so that you could read materials above or below the keyboard. To go from reading material to the monitor, you always had to turn you head/eyes from side-to-side. With flat panels, we can now place readings, the display, and keyboard in a straight line, and move between them in a more natural up-and-down fashion. Maybe users who only need onscreen applications -- graphics programs and games for instance -- might miss this benefit. Then again, I'm a professional student who has to utilize the web as well as books, journals, papers, notes, etc.

I'm a professional student
I like that, it makes no sense :) Defining 'profession' as 'a learned occupation' you're saying that you had to study & get qualifications... to study & get qualifications?! Student != profession, it's what you do to go into a profession.

Though yes, I agree with your point about the lack of working space with CRTs. I currently have 2x huge CRTs on my desk, 20" & 21", however when the parts for my new machine arrive on Monday I am going back to using my LCDs (probably 2x 15" & 1x 17"). Even though the LCDs are smaller, lower resolution & have worse colour reproduction I simply need some space to spread out papers/texts/books & WRITE things! I will miss the CRTs for gaming/image manipulation & most of all watching movies/anime from my bed. I suppose the best plan is to move to a bigger place where I can have both setup at once :D

You do have to learn how to study, which is essentially is learning to learn. Like alot of people, i learned how to study after high school.

Professional students have a 4.0... all the rest are minor leaguers.

Still, the terminology 'professional student' still strikes me as strange. One can be a 'successful student' yes, a 'hardworking student' sure, but I would never use & have never heard anybody use the term 'professional' with regards to being a student. I doubt you will find a single definition (from a reputable source) for the word 'profession' that, in it's entirety, supports 'student' as a 'profession'. In common usage, 'profession' would usually refer to the occupation one does to earn a living; the major discrepency here being that students don't tend to get paid (until a certain level, that is).

Anyway, this is all just opinions, back to the setups :)

somehow professional student reminds me of kings of comedy, where one of the comedians asks an audience member what their job is and he states "computer school"

ever tried forza 2 on multiple screens? of course....there's only 1 screen pictured here...I dunno

Just out of curiosity, what is the benefit to having two Xbox's in the same location?

Apparently you've never heard of extreme gaming. Its the best, you have two of the same system (more if possible) and you play one of them until you piss your pants. Then you get a friend to go under that little glass area in the desk and you smash your face with the remaining systems until you can't feel feelings anymore. O yeah....its extreme.
