yes because its more quiet, i run it fanless and i dont like tooling with fan controllers and junk. I want it quiet during idle so i can sleep with it on. The 9500 cools better obviously but i dont like going in an out on the fanmate. The only thing even remotely loud is the gpu fan but msi has a slider controller on it and leave it on low. Its just a tad higher than a yate loon and more quiet than a 9500 on high. Together with a mobo on heatpipes, i have no small tiny that whine anymore. Im very happy now and fall asleep faster.

im pretty sure the ninja is on par with the 9500 if not better, anyways heres a pic of a ninja i mounted for friend

what is the purpose of the metal casing surround the memory chips?

Bling bling. They don't help much with thermal convection at all.

Do you get better performance with the air flow going up and away from the HS vs. the standard way?

That was an experiment actually. I left it that way and ran Prime 95 torture test, maximum heat for 2 hours at 2.4 and then did the same thing with the fan the other way and the results were the same.

The way seen in the pic doesn't cool my RAM and NB as well as the traditional way so I did end up switching it back.

mmm nice, time to upgrade to the si-128! :p

That looks really cool codename47, but how does getting ram in and out work?

it doesn't :)

The set that are closest to the HSF do not get taken out. I have or had 3GB of memory installed at the time of these photos. I can still easily place ram in the outer two ram banks without problem. Really I didn't touch it that much so once the ram once in I put in the heatsinks and luckily all ran fine but otherwise I would have had to remove the heatsinks each time. As I by product though my ram recieved plenty of air keeping them pretty cool.

First pics shows pretty much all the zalman heatsinks/fans in my computer (FM3 120mm exhaust, 7000ALCU, VF700 an 32mm northbridge heatsink)

Second pic focuses on the 7000ALCU (the ram ended in the picture even if i asked it not too)

And actually appropriately sized. Those Zalman's were the last HS's to look "right" imo. Nowadays, with the TT and BT, it's just silly. Anyway, here's my new little friend.

What NB sink is that and how did it help with the temps?

I just got a DS3 and only have a ghetto rigged fan blowing on it, but would like a better more permanent solution. Thanks.

I don't have a digital camera with me ATM, and the only pics of my PC I have are pre-Ninja....it works well. Ninja+dorm AC = 39C F@H and 42C load with a 600MHz overclock and accompanying overvolt.

Imagine a AMD Athlon 64 3800+...

Now imagine it came with a PURE ALUMINUM HS.
Put a SWEET Black fan on top of that. 90mm by the looks of it!

Now imagine a sweet Silver cased NB fan. Branded with ASUS. Bet you didn't know THEY make fans ;)

That's my set-up!

Pictures coming soon!
