I had to zoooooom really close to see what was written on good ole Big Ben's collar. :p

had some fun about with an S1 and my lens baby, some good pictures (still getting used to the lens) The thing I am surpirsed about, is that it survived a fall in the -10 water with a few dots on the lens that are being removed as we speak.

sunset.jpg

Took this one last night on a hill near my place. The sunset was really cool (even though the sun itself wasn't visible).

^^^ nice underwater pics a few posts up. i would love to get the underwater case for my cannon a60 so i could take it diving with me, too bad i am pretty broke right now with college and all :(

I was in Alpharetta, took a picture of a building to test out the image stablizer feature. I shot this image by hand (no tripod) at full 12x optical zoom and Image Stablizer enabled. So IS works! :)

*image of building*

Decent shot. IS definitely works. You want to use mode 2 IS. Nice, high light shot. Even with IS anything below 1/60s at 12x is fuzzy, unless you're made of stone from what I've seen.

Thanks! Oh and of course IS Mode 2 was enabled, I feel it works better than IS Mode1 for some reason. I think the shutter speed was at exactly 1/60, perfect! Need another week or so to see what this camera can really do. :D

My god, that's rundown. Where did you take that picture, an old mill building or something? It seems like it would be condemned or used as a crack den or something.

Actually there are people living in that building. The picture was taken right near the "downtown" area. This building has been in this condition for years and open to the public so to speak.

It costs money to "condemn" buildings and Detroit hasn't been know for it's resposable leadership in past decades.

In this picture the little room on the left is being used as a bedroom! There was a bed, some extra clothes/shoes, and two cans of blueberry pie filling in the room. :(

Whoa HorsePunchKid, I like the picture. Did you edit that at all? It really doesn't matter if you did or not, its a really awesome effect.

^^^ What he said. Tell me there is a full-size of that one floating around that you are willing to share.

Yeah, I did a little post-processing. You can see the original here for comparison. (Well, even that one had a bit of curves and desaturation done. My white balance was pretty far off for these foggy shots.)

Here's the trick, if you have Photoshop:

  1. Copy the whole image, paste it into a new layer
  2. Blur the new layer significantly (~7px on a 750x500 image, for example)
  3. Hit the blending options on that layer and set the blending method to multiply
  4. Opacity, curves, and whatnot to taste
  5. Chill and serve ;)

Cheap trick, but sometimes a photo just needs a little more, you know? I already had the fog there, but this helped bring out that hazy, tranquil mood.

Hmmm... I did the post-processing at low-res, but I can go back and redo it at higher res. I can't guarantee it will preserve that dreamy feel, but I'll do my best.

Edit: You can find various sizes up to 1600x1200 here. I couldn't figure out how to copy adjustment layers between documents, but I think I reproduced the effect at full size pretty well. The only difference is that you have to increase the radius of the blur in proportion to the larger-size image.

For the time being, this is my highest resolution photo-stitch(s) to date. I hope to make one that dwarfs its size sometime soon. And I hope for more light (and a better time of day -- this was ~evening-ish) so I don't have to shoot shoot @ f/2.8 ISO 200. Something near f/12, 1/200, ISO 100 would be nice -- ie, "Sunny 16" conditions. This was done with my 85mm f/1.8 lens and Digital Rebel without any filters.

Detail Crop (640x480 @ 100% Size -- ~60KB)

Here is another stitch. Shot @ f/6.3, ISO 200, 1/100 w/ Circular Polarizer to darken sky a tiny bit. Decided on a warm color in RAW conversion. Highlight detail exists in the RAW file for the clock face, although I pushed the image a little during conversion.

When I get around to another post in this thread, I'm probably having a different theme (ie, not panoramas, and probably not sports either)

My Images are sub-par compared to some of yours.. but then I am working
with a Nikon Coolpix 2mp Camera! But it works, which is better then nothing
and I am pleased by the general quality for just snapping off a few frames.
Never had the time to really get into photography either.. but here they are

Awesome shots KodiakStar!!! I love the shot of the ship remains on the coast. Must have been incredible to see.

Was actually a ship that got grounded on some rocks and then drifted onto the beach,
so it sat there (whole) for a long time (near a rifle range) however.. the kids were partying
inside of it too much... so the local gov't people blew it up (so the kids didnt do anything
stupid inside of it)
