Im sure he can handle the extra pound All laptops arent really that heavier over the other. My dell d500 and my dads p4 huge thing is not that noticable in weight

A friends laptop is 8 pounds and mine is about 5 - and there's a huge difference between them. Doesn't make a big difference if you don't carry your laptop around alot - but if you do - it makes a huge difference!

As far as the weight, after you carry it around, you don't really notice it. My laptop is a tad over 9 pounds. 16" behemoth. I carry it around everyday and have gotten used to it.
