should i buy it? response urgently needed!!

ok, so there's a community garage sale going on today, and i didn't expect anything to good, but i roamed around on my bike and lo and behold, there sat four 5$ 10 port (i believe) 10/100 (i believe) switches. it's gray, and doesn't look unlike alot of the other one's i've seen. however, it has alot of words on it like ports, etc, but one of the words on it was "collisions", a word i haven't heard in a while. i'm not sure how old it is, but is it worth it?

i'm a 17 year old kid, and me and my friends lan sometimes. my question: should i buy it/them?
 
yeah...so i don't think it works...which means i bought it.


i plugged in the power cable, fans came on, and immediately, and still the port 5 light is blinking, the 7 and 8 lights are steadily on, and i plugged my dsl modem into ports 1 and 2, and no lights, nothing. any tips or shold i go try to trade it ofr a different one?

oh yeah, it has a sliding switch that says x pc and =hub, i assume i should have it set to hub, but sliding it over doesn't do anything....:(
