It seems like it is going to be really popular. I am very young for diablo series. I mean I was illiterate when diablo 2 released :D

I am very new to RPG. to be honest I have never played RPG before.
I don't if I will have wasted my money when I have bought this game.

What do you think? Is it worth to give it a shot?

It's not an RPG. It's a hack & slash.

An RPG would be Skyrim.

Yes it should be fun and worth the money. After Starcraft 2's dismal showing though, I'm not too excited.
On anther related note, this weekend is going to be open public stress test for Path of Exile. It's the same type of gameplay as Diablo 3.
Check it out.

better yet, it's going to be free to play and you can have full access now during the beta buy purchasing $10 worth of points.

Check out some other, cheaper games like Torchlight or Path of Exile first to see if you like the genre.

PoE is actually doing a free weekend this weekend as a stress test thing, so get on and see if you enjoy it. Diablo 3 is more simplistic in terms of skill allocation, but it's the same genre.

Skyrim is pretty much a hack and slash, too. But, yes... try Path of Exile this weekend for free first. If you like the gameplay and mechanics, then you can surely give D3 a whirl when it comes out next week. Or just continue palying PoE ;)

Let's say your "illiterate" age is 5 years old and since Diablo 2 released in 2000 you're too young. The game is rated 17+. :p

All joking aside, try TorchLight and go from there. You could even buy a cheap copy of Diablo 2 to get an idea of what the hack & slash is all about.

I second what the others are saying. Try TorchLight and/or Titan Quest and see how you like those. While playing, keep in the back of your mind that multiplayer also increases the fun-factor.

it's not a game, it's a drug

wondering if you should or should not buy it because of inexperience with RPG's is like saying you're on the fence about shooting heroin today because chair

There are many good arguments for chair though...

I would hold off for a while. Just to make sure its not another duke nukem or rage or any other lacking game... see what others say about it.. then spend your money after you make sure its your kind of game. Me, I have no interest in it, never cared for top down games.

uhhhhhhh........
just ignore this guy.

we've actually played the game.
the correct answer is: YES

(seriously, dukenukem or rage? wtf is wrong with you??)

No, unless you like not owning your games, and only being allowed to play when servers are up.

And no, because it's not exactly Diablo anymore, sure it has the name, but everything from the original, and Diablo 2 has been changed. It's a casualized abomination in order to line Activision's pockets with money.

At this point, since there aren't significant discounts to be had, you are probably better off waiting for the reviews and demo before committing to purchase.

This guy is one of those PC MASTER RACE gamers that doesn't enjoy having fun. Hack and slash games are incredibly fun for a lot of people. Hes probably basing his thoughts off the beta which was about a tenth of one chapter and was restricted to normal mode. The fact of the matter is hes angry that the game is even catering to those that like the story and want to just run around killing shit and exploring and not be one shot by monsters. Get over yourself dude.

It is true that you own an account that owns the game and you do have to be online to play it, which is really annoying. But most people will get over it. Also to the guy saying that Starcraft II flopped, ya right, theres a huge community for it and the story was absolutely amazing.

False, I play a lot of games on my PS3.

It's the first half of act 1.

You like the story? Did you play the first 2 games? They retconned a few things from those games. So I find it hard trying to enjoy a 'story' that doesn't even make sense.

Starcraft 2's story sucked, bro.

My responses are in Cyan.

seriously! Blizzards going to need to setup some sort of Loot Drop Anonymous phone line or something, because it's just like a slot machine. Instead of dropping an endless stream of quarters hoping for a jackpot, your slashing away for the chance to find that one rare drop that will fetch you $250 in the auction house. Played D2 so much I'm sick at the site of it now and wasn't thrilled at the WoW (world of warcraft) like similarities in D3, but non of those things are going to change the fact that I will probably be playing this game exclusively for a long time until Dark Souls pc comes out at least. I'm even building a dedicated budget rig for Diablo 3. If your still on the fence, wait until a free starter pack is available, which might be months, but you won't know what your missing and you'll hate yourself for waiting that long when you finally do play it for the first time.

Gotta ask, what game would you consider HAD a good story? I felt SC2's story was pretty decent, especially for an RTS (which rarly have decent plots). Good length too.

It is possible that in a few months time a "Starter Edition" of Diablo 3 will emerge. It has been done with SC2 and WoW. It is essentially a demo.

Not much else you can do to try out a hack and slash like D3. Titan Quest is very similar to D2 in many ways but with much better graphics. Pretty sure Titan Quest is very cheap to get hold of (quick look, £5 on amazon /w expansion). D3 is quiet original in it's skill system so hard to compare.

Either wait for Starter/demo or take the plunge.

I'm glad your responses were so well thought out and in cyan! I'd love for you to tell me what about Starcraft 2's story sucks. I'd also would like to know what specifically is retconned that makes the story not work or nonsensical in the Diablo Series. As for the whole master pc race comment, i was more speaking to the fact that others obviously can't have fun if its not super hard or done in your way. Most people say that its 1/4 of Act 1, and there's around 6 acts.

In my opinion, I would say yes. If you like killing things at a high speed rate and also enjoy being awesome, then you should.:D

For $60, I think that's too much to pay just for the story so I don't think that is a huge factor. (A story is pretty much done once you've played through the game once)

You'd have to enjoy playing hack and slash game enough to play the game several times just to try different classes and different difficulty. That would be worth $60.

If you're only going to place once, that's hardly worth $60. IMO anyway..

Yes

The beta was fun & it was only a "lite" version for being 1/3 or 1/4 of Act I. I think that anyone that enjoys hack 'n' slashers will have a blast with this one.

I want the game - but I don't think it's worth $60.

If there is a sale or another way to get a legit copy for $49 I'd bite. Otherwise I will continue to play BF3.

People on this site amaze me. $60 for years of entertainment. The beta was 1/3rd of Act 1 of normal. And what scrub stops at normal? It's all about the item hunt. Go ahead and skip this game if you'd rather troubleshoot your multiple video card games all day instead.

I personally will be waiting a couple weeks to see reviews on the game because I don't want to dump money into a game that i will play for like a week.

The nice thing about these hack&slash, loot oriented, action RPGs is that they have a tremendous amount of replay value for those that like the genre. As far as the online only thing goes; Yes, it may be inconvenient at times but, unless you're living in 1998 odd's are you computer is almost always connected to the internet so I really don't understand why so many people are crying over this... I just assume most of them enjoy complaining more than they enjoy gaming. This of course does not apply to those users who do a significant amount of traveling/commuting and play most of their games on a laptop while on the road, those guys have a right to be a bit miffed.

I personally found Torch Light to be quite boring (I also despise that art style) but I loved Titan Quest, despite it's issues and would highly recommend it. You can pick both Titan Quest and Torch Light up on Steam for about $5 to $10 each. I've been playing the Path of Exile beta for quite some time now and while I think it's a great game (you also have to be online at all times to play it but for some reason people aren't crying over that one) it is quite complex so I don't know if I'd recommend it to some one who has never played a Diablo clone before. Stick with something a bit more laid back and easy going for your first experience, PoE will chew you up and spit you out and not necessarily in a good way way.

If for some reason you can't play those other games before D3 comes out I would feel completely safe recommending it to you as your first A-RPG experience. It's a fun, addicting game that will run well and most PCs with a great learning curve and multiple difficulty levels. If you can play Co-Op it's just that much better. Being a Blizzard game the odds of it dropping below $50 in the next 2 years is pretty slim but if you look around online you may still be able to find a boxed copy for $50, I know there were a few sales a couple weeks ago. So, unless you hate fast paced, loot heavy action games and/or will have to choose between eating for the month of May or buying Diablo 3 I would say take the plunge, pick it up and enjoy the hell out of it for the next couple of years, especially if you can get a friend or two to pick it up along with you as well.

If you do end up picking it up but don't have any friends who will be getting it feel free to shoot me a PM here if you feel like playing some Co-Op after it comes out... though you may have to give me a couple days to play through it once in single player.

Close, but wrong. The Diablo series are classified as an Action RPG. Skyrim would be a more traditional style RPG, but more specifically known as a WRPG (Western RPG) to differ itself from a JRPG (Japanese RPG). Then you have SRPG and all other kinds of sub categories that do better justice of describing a game.

Diablo 3 is an ARPG.

I have the Annual Pass, so I get it for free. But honestly, if I wasn't, I wouldn't be buying it.
