My beautiful 21inch dell p1130 crt died on me a few days ago and now I am in the market for a new LCD. I'm looking for something I can game on but also enjoy movies and general computer use with also. I've been looking into the hyundai l90d+ and the Ag Neovo f-419 r12. I understand from reading the reviews that the Hyundai has a fair amount of dithering and the text quality is quite poor. Unfortunately I have not seen many reviews for the f-419 but other than the fact that it is 12ms the AG Neovo panel seems to be a better choice. Has anyone had expericence with these panels or others that they would recommend for fast paced gaming and movie watching? My friends have recommended the Samsung 912N but I have rejected it because it does not come with DVI, and it's an older 25ms panel.

My price range is between 300 and 350 shipped. ghosting is a huge concern for me but so is image quality and interpolation at 1024x768 as I play many games at this resolution. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunable I don't have experience running the L90D+ outside the native resolution, but I got curious about your post.
I've being reading that some people don't find the L90D+ text quality very good. Personaly I find it very sharp and question myself why others experience is diferent.
So I have some question to try to understand it.

The reviews say that text quality is poor in native resolution, or outside native resolution with dithering ?
Could you post the review, if it says text quality is not very good in native resolution?
I see no reason to read text with dithering outside the native resolution, is the text in a game?

Are you limited by your video card or the resolution options in the games?
What video card do you have?

This review says the text is "adequate, but not especially crisp," they make no mention of resolution. http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,119780,00.asp

I've also read personal reviews on forums where people say the text quality is not the best.

This review says that the monitor has issues with movie viewing: http://www.behardware.com/articles/...-of-low-priced-8-12-16-and-25-ms-19-lcds.html

Others have mentioned its bad viewing angles.

From reading I have gathered that this is due to the fact that this is a 6bit TN panel. I'm now leaning more towards an 8bit panel with atleast a 12ms refresh rate.

I'm using a 9800pro, but I mostly play cs:s and wc3 both of which I can run at 1280x1024 with no problem.

You could try the L91 series.

It has a 12ms panel but for most people this is not an issue and it is much better in the over-all category for many users.

Thanks for the review link, inded they say: "its image quality is mediocre. Most jurors found text adequate, but not especially crisp, on our text screens."
But you can also find in the same site under the user reviews: "Good color quality, cripsy text".
Also in tomshardware and behardware reviews there isn't a single reference to text problem:
http://www.behardware.com/articles/...ms-19-lcds.html
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/di...215/lcd-01.html

Fortunable I find it's text _very_sharp_ in DVI native resolution and with windows smooth font disable.
Comparing this lcd text to a very good crt, the only bad thing that I find is that it's too bright, and it's backlight is to some extent like a flurescent light, the effect to me is like u have low refresh rate in a crt (not so bad as 60Hz but something like 70 hz). I only notice this with white color. Maybe they are refering to this.

My experience in LCDs is limited to hyundai, LG, BenQ, Sony and Samsung. From all these, in subjective analysis I found _some_ samsungs to have the best image quality, but they all had very slow responce in games, until this (samsung) pannel was out.
I've also found LG and Benq to have washed colours and didn't like the sony's responce time and mirror like effect.
Since then some new monitors are out, but I don't know how they performe.

The l90d+ indeed has bad viewing angles like all TN panels, but since I'm in front of it, this isn't a issue to me.

I never watched a DVD in it since I have a bigger tv and hometheather hifi, so can't coment about DVD movie quality, but I find it perfect to watch small movies downloaded from the net. Regarding colour quality I find it very good, viewing photographs is as good (very good contrast) as a crt.

Regarding games, it's fast, but not so fast as a crt, and it takes some time to get used to (for someone used to a crt). I play a lot of 1rst person shooters, and the screen gets blured when you move your mouse fast, but not while just running. Anyway it's the fastest that I've seen in a LCD, others from the same generation where worst.

To be honest there are only 2 reasons because I choose a LCD instead of a new CRT.
I could not find anyone selling good CRT's here and all CRT's that I tried make a high pitch noise (size and weight is not an issue to me).

You could try to see the new overdrive LCD's, the reviews say they have some issues in movies, but they seem interesting to take a look:

Viewsonic VP191b:

Here some more that you maybe already know of:

Another option could be to repair your CRT or get a new one :)

I went from a CRT to a hyundai L90D+ and love it, the only negative is the viewing angle. The text is really sharp on it IMO, I dont notice ghosting in any games and I love the colors on it.

I really love it as you can tell, but coming from a CRT I was scared and cant be more pleased with it.

Shakezilla:
Just to share your personal experience.

How would you compare the text quality to your crt?
worst, equal or better?

How would you compare viewing pictures (photographs) to your crt?
worst, equal or better?

Text, never set them up side by side but I would say about equal maybe a little bit better with the L90D+

Viewing angle is hands down for the CRT, but the only time I notice it is when I am trying to(I sit infront of the monitor) I acutally sorta like the crappy viewing angle, since I am at school dont really have to worry about my roomate seeing what I am typing and stuff

Also I think my eyes like the LCD better, dont know why maybe becasue its bigger 17" CRT vs 19" LCD.

These are my opinions(some may disagree), and I have pretty limited experience but I am very happy.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess my mistake is trying to find a monitor that is a total replacement for my trinitron that's under 400 bucks. I use my PC for movie viewing and television viewing as well as gaming and I'm not always sitting directly infront of it. The viewing angle and interpolation issues are really souring me on the TN panels. I think i might stick it out with the 17inch crt im using now and save for an ips or pva panel that's also capable of gaming. Maybe I'll catch a 2005fp on sale.

Since this has become a Hyundai L90D+ discussion I will repost my first impressions of my L90D+ that I purchased and hooked up yesteday.

This is my first LCD so I have no other LCD experience but I do think the picture is every bit as good as the 19" Viewsonic P95f+ CRT it replaced. No dead pixels, the text is nice and crisp and so far I haven't noticed any ghosting.

I am using the DVI cable and I installed Image Tune. Running it in default mode. I am very happy so far.

Yeah for what you do, I guess I wouldnt recconmend the L90D+, good luck finding something that matches your needs
