Shogun Total War 2 battle mechanics

Looking into getting Shogun Total War 2 off Steam since it's on sale. Are the battle mechanics the same in Shogun Total War 2 as they were in the previous Total War games or has anything drastically changed? I heard that battles are faster paced and take a shorter amount of time- is this true?

Maybe? Nothing is drastically different, but the sword and spear nature of most the units makes combat more similar to Rome than to Empire.

It's a really great entry to the series, IMO. Definitely worth grabbing on sale if you like Total War. Probably the most polished of the bunch, and among the best.

Compared to Empire/Napoleon, yes, the battles are shorter and the general pace has been quickened.
Especially in 1v1 you see alot of short battles.
Better chance of skirmishing/terrain usage in 2v2s if that's your thing.
