I can't believe all the whiners lol. I paid in full for my preorder of the Croft Edition and have no regrets. I wanted to support the devs and my favorite game franchise, and this was such an ambitious game. It's the only game I think I've ever preordered actually, and I mainly did it because I enjoyed Rise so much and am a huge fan of the Tomb Raider franchise going back to Tomb Raider '96. I think many don't realize how much work and management skill it takes to put out a game like this. The devs have to make a living too. I've already gotten over 25 hours of entertainment out of the game, and that number will continue to climb. I've run into only three non-game-breaking bugs (hit them on my first play through), and none lately after patches, so I don't see what all the fuss is about. These whiners ought to learn better money management skills instead of cursing others for their problems.

Now back to enjoying the game some more. Us TR fans have been pretty much spoiled rotten as far as I'm concerned :). Rise and Shadow are awesome.

Well, it goes back about 70 years.
It does not help that the CPC encourages it. It's pushed in their textbooks and it's constantly on TV.

The f'd up part about the whole thing is that if it were not for the Japanese occupation of China, brutal though it was, the CPC would not be in power today. The CPC cost China far more lives than the Japanese did.

This is the same culture (Chinese) that generally view it as socially acceptable to cheat your way to the top no matter the costs as well and that it's normal to spend 96 hours straight gaming in one of their internet cafes.

Fuck em' - there's almost 1.4 billions Chinese, and they all think they have to be #1.

Early adopter tax in software/hardware/whatever isn't a new concept.

Airlines are even worse. Could be $200 one day and $140 the next, and then $100 the next week.

If you're concerned about it, use a credit card that has price guarantee. Many of them do price guarantees up to 90 days.

It just a shitty thing to do for a brand new game which had no DLC released. The game has also been very hyped and expensive as well as so so in terms of mechanics and gameplay. I preordered for bonus content only as is the only case I ever preorder unless it's a CDPR game. This tactic will surely backfire on them with next releases.

This isn't a new trend though. It's a prevalent practice now especially on digital storefronts, and if they're that concerned about paying less, they should wait.

It's clearly a business decision and I don't blame them for that.

A simple solution: don't pre-order and never buy games at launch. Ignore glowing reviews as well.

when we analyze communities with similar beliefs and values (filial piety, and deference to authority) in HK,California,Malaysia,Canada,Australia ( countries / states where there is a huge Chinese diaspora.) , we don't get this.

I think it's mostly the fault of the Chinese gov, where decades and decades of virtue signalling and manipulation is par for course in media , education and even official notices of holiday celebrations..

in this case, im pretty sure cause it has Jap. (they get worked up , as if on cue, whenever it involves anything Jap...unless it's Jap girls. They love em)
i mean, SURELY some other Chinese manufacturer / seller has done something like this before...

People should be happy the game is going on sale so soon, usually you have to wait longer. I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would be upset when a game goes on sale. The sooner people can pick up new games at more reasonable prices, the better. Always a better plan to just wait for the prices to come down. I think the last game I grabbed on day one was Witcher 3, and I definitely didn't regret that. Usually though I end up waiting anywhere from weeks to months (or even way longer) before I grab a game. By then the prices are usually more tolerable, and the devs have usually pushed out at least a few patches. If I grabbed a game at launch for $60 and then 3 weeks later it goes on sale for $20, I'd be ecstatic. Now people don't have to pay the same price I had to pay for the same game. I'm not gonna jump on the game's store page and write a bad review just because more people are able to get the game at a way better price. I'd think it was fucking awesome that the game's price went down so fast. Like Brent said:

Are you really that dense? Is it so hard to comprehend that people who already bought the game would be upset when it still has huge bugs yet goes on sale for nearly 50% off just 4 weeks after launch. Even the unreleased content is on sale. Only a fucking moron would defend that garbage move.

And I am not surprised, not in the least.

But of course, there may well be ulterior motives too, this just gave them an excuse and platform.

Whining about it going on sale doesn't change the fact that people that bought it early were willing to pay $60. It may be a shitty move, but they only care about their bottom line.

The success of a game can always be measured by how quickly it is discounted. It is almost better than reviews.

And now that I come to think of it this is a two edged sword. Since they sold season passess promising new content every month, they can't bail on that promise now. They have to put out the content, despite the relatively mild sales.

I learned a decade or so ago, that you don't buy games on Steam until they're on sale. And that they ALWAYS have a sale. If you don't wanna wait, that's on you. Because you know they're gonna have a sale! Also, what someone else said earlier. Still not cheap enough for me.

It would be this flat if they didn't include preorder content. I generally only preoder if it includes extra missions and such, not stuff like outfits. I do however despise it when they add extra missions to preorder. Most games you'd have to wait for GOTY otherwise to play these but sometimes they soon add DLC. I'm sure it is a business decision but either way, it sure pissed people off who preodered a very expensive digitally delivered game. It will likely come back to them on later preorders.

Sweet! With my Steam wallet balance, it only cost me $34. Thanks to the people who are salty! Without this article I wouldn't have known the game was on sale.

After a year? Doom 2016 came out in May 2016, and I bought it in July of that same year for $28.79 from Green Man Gaming.

And yet now all they did was bring more awareness to the sale price thus pushing sales further. I haven't pre-ordered anything since getting some games on xbox360 when stores would actually sell out of discs on launch day.

Also, now because of things like this, i put not stock in steam reviews.

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is why you never pre-order games, and never pay full price on a title UNLESS you specifically do it to support a smaller developer. Sales must have been in the toilet (huge surprise! TOTALLY unexpected! /s) for them to discount so heavily, so soon.

In other words you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. But please point me to all the other games that went on sale for nearly 50% off just 4 weeks after launch including unreleased DLC. That should be no problem because according to you it's pretty standard.

Game isn't meeting sales so they are trying to make up for their losses. Happens a lot, not all the time but often enough I usually wait a month or two.

Mmmmhmmmm, I'm gonna complain that it's not cheap enough yet / I can wait longer. See what December brings.

And sorry not sorry to all the pre-order whiners. You knew what you were doing. You bought it early so you could play it right away and you did so suck it up and eat your price premium. Maybe you learned a lesson?

Yet another person with piss poor reading comprehension skills. Most of the anger is with people not even being able to play the game all the way through because it had so many bugs. And then they are discounting the full version of the game even more and all the DLC which has not even been released yet. So yes discounting a game nearly 50% off just 4 weeks after launch while it still has technical issues preventing those that paid at or near full price from finishing it is a shity move. It's almost like there are just nothing but assholes in this forum that get off on seeing other people get crapped on.

I would say complaining about technical issues is a very big thing. We need these companies to stop releasing so early. Though I have seen games move a release date due to it not being ready and that is also reacted to with a terrible negative backlash.

Complaining about a sale after launch, that is a lesser issue and comes with the territory. Preording you are first, not cheapest. Especially when you reach the last 4 months of the year, with black friday and xmas and new years sales right around the corner.

Not sure what the real answer is. These companies release a crappy build of a game and people buy it. Especially with pre-orders they know they have sold XX amount of copies even if it doesn't work out the door. That is a terrible way to do business.

It goes back a lot longer than 70 years.

Does it being 50% off mean they won't be fixing the bugs? If it did not go on sale, would that mean they are not fixing the bugs?

Your entitlement is hilarious, you are not entitled to decide when a game goes on sale, you are not guaranteed a bug free game (especially these days), and you certainly are not entitled to sympathy from others. If you want an echo chamber there are plenty out there, hell these days the echo chambers seem to out number everything else on the net.

Well depends on what did you like about the first one.
First had an amazing setting, and the story was allright, but the gameplay was mediocre.
Second had an allright setting, allright story, and amazing gameplay.
The third has a mediocre setting, and mediocre story, but the same gameplay as the second.

How is the gameplay the same as the second one? The third game is much more about tombs and has hardly any action at all compared to the previous game.

How does this game being on sale equate to people being screwed over? Unless I missed something, and used digital game licenses can be resold, the value of what was purchased isn't diminished by the current price since it has no value to anyone but the person who purchased it. If you bought the game and want to be angry with anyone, be angry with yourself for making a bad choice to buy it at release.
