Have a Dell N4032 Switch (the model with Ethernet ports) but realized too late we didnt have a way to connect a Netapp to it via 10GbE as the ethernet ports on the FAS2246 are only Gigabit. We are going to buy this module to connect the SFP+ 10GbE ports on the Netapp to the Dell switches. Will this cable work for that?

EDIT: Correction the Netapp unit is a FAS2246.

So your disk shelf is essentially irrelevant here, right? The post is kind of confusing.

Basically, you want to know if that SFP+ tranceiver with the Twin-AX cable will work to connect your filer to the network?

Kind of a side note, and may not be that helpful... but in my opinion you should have entertained the Nexus 3524 switch.

Also, don't get your cables through Amazon, lol - get them from Dell:

I wasn't involved in the purchasing decision here and The switch and Netapp are already bought and installed. They got a great deal on the switches but we are trying to go cheap for the cables as we are over budget on this and dell quoted $150 for two cables. The disk shelf is relevant as we are trying to connect the SPF+ 10Gig ports on it to the module that goes into the switch. Trying to see there is something special about the cables dell would provide vs the cheaper amazon cables.

The problem that you will run into will be with NetApp support and the cable types. Normally it is not recommended to cross-brand Twin-AX cables.

well assuming you really have a full netapp storage(a quick google search shows that there is no FAS2246) and not only a shelf DS2246 you can use cisco cables which are supported by netapp and dell (we had the same problem with our FAS 3220 and an N4000 Switch) DO NOT use cheap noname cables, the switch will not accept those and since netapp usually uses intel nics the netapp will refuse them too... and both netapp and dell will refuse support if there is an issue... I assume this is an enterprise deployment so tell your boss to stop cutting corners on core infrastructure, as if an extra 150$ are relevant on an 150k$ netapp deployment...

edit: we use Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M cables (Model Nr. 37-0961-01! DO NOT use 37-0961-02 they will not work)
