Server memory...is speed important?

I'm setting up a new file sharing server at home. I got an Asus A8N-SLI board from a friend for free, and only one ram slot works (otherwise the board is fine), so I'm limited to just one stick of what I have on hand . I was wondering if I only have the choice between 512 MB of DDR400 or 1GB of DDR333, what would be the best route?
Thanks for reading!:D

i doubt you'd see a difference either way, but i would go with 1gb of ddr333, since ram is way way way faster than hard drives and the network speed, so it's a moot issue anyway... just go for the capacity

just go for capacity and timings.

ecc can't overclock period just runs things more of a straight way instead of stopping and going. the more memory the better.

I'd be wary of setting up a server with a questionable MOBO. Go for the 1gb module as Eclipse noted but, I personally would not store any critical or irretrievable data on it. If the MOBO flakes out you could lose it. IIRC, ASUS has a flat fee on repairs.
