which ones do you think are better? i dont particularly care about the mic, since i already have one. i know sound is kind of subjective, but i'd like an idea of what other people think is good. or any other recommendations for the same price? (~$50)

this for gaming? HD497 has a small soundstage.. bad for FPS gaming... I dont know about the Siberia, but looks like it should beat the HD497 for gaming but lose to it for music :p

Sony MDR-XD400 for the best of both worlds on a budget :D

yeah forgot to put the purpose. mostly for gaming, and for general use when i dont want to be bugging other people. i plan on getting a set of speakers for music down the line though, so i guess the icemat would be the better choice, huh. how much better are the sony's for gaming? or is it about the same, but it's also good for music too (i.e. your "best of both worlds" thing)? cuz if it's ~same gaming-wise, then i'm gonna go for the icemats to save some money :)

If you CAN, go for HD 280:

The HD 480's are a tad cheaper:

If you can do it, I would recommend boosting your budget at least up to $100. You can get the AT AD500 for $81:

At this point, you could also consider the HD 555s for $98:

well if this is for gaming, I would skip sennheiser's altogether...
I have the HD485's although they sound very good for music and thier soundstage is nice, the sennheiser veil on them makes footsteps sounds weird.. I think the word is they "mask" the footsteps.... and the HD555 is supposely the veilest sennheiser..

the AT-AD500's should be nice, but bass might be a bit problematic.. for gaming at least.. it doesn't have the BOOM that the A500's non-closed has for explosions in gaming... But the HD280pro should be nice.. it has a decent soundstage... music-wise.. some reviews says that they are boring... and bass has tiny impact.. I still stick to my choice.. the Sony's MDR-XD400... good soundstage for gaming yet performs real well for music too.. and it drives off my audigy 2 ZS like crazy.. for example... using the HD485's I have to put the volume to 85% to get a good volume.. while these... 24ohms ones I have them on half and it is too loud hehe.

Just listing results I got from head-fi.org... I've never really looked into Sony's, but I'll vouch for your suggestion because you're one of the more knowledgable that post on this sub-forum.

And I thought the A500's were closed and the AD500's were open.

O yes u are correct my bad. O and the reason the Sony's aren't getting much recognition is b/c they are much newer than any other phones... but spread the word!

do you think there would be a noticeable difference in gaming between the icemats and sony's? cuz i have speakers that i can use for music, just want a pair of headphones for games so i dont bug other ppl w/ gunshots and stuff.

well the icemat is probably made for gaming.... the way I see it.. so I guess in this case.. since it's only for gaming... get the ice mat since it does come with a MIC..
