Sea Sonic Electronics congratulates Intel on the launch of the Haswell Processors. We are inspired by the continuing efforts made by Intel to push the boundaries of performance and at the same time, be environmentally conscious through reduction of energy consumption. These are the exact same attributes which have driven Sea Sonic for the past 35+ years. As we strive for industry leading performance, we continue to research the long term effects of each of our design. By continuously improving our efficiency we try to achieve maximum energy savings and by using high quality components we aim to prolong product lifetime; all to achieve long term sustainability.

Our full lines of 80 PLUS® Platinum and Gold power supplies have been designed to be ready to meet Haswell's new technical requirements! The ultra efficient Platinum series, which also includes the industry leading true fanless models, and our long running, award winning X Series, which is now supported by the 80 PLUS® Gold G series - are all Haswell READY! In addition, our 80 PLUS® Bronze line up, consisting of the M12II-750 & 850W models, is also compatible to be used with Intel's new Haswell Processors.

Yet that lowest power rating shown is 360 watts, which is still way more than needed for many low power systems. Power efficency drops off when you draw less than 20% of the rated power, which would be 72 watts for the 360 watt model.

My HTPC, i3 with dual 2TB green drives, an SSD and dual tuner cards, only draws around 40 watts, even when recording 6 channels at the same time. Even peak draw at atartup is less than 120 watts.
Would love to be able to buy a 150/200 watt 80+ supply to lower the power usage even more.

Yup, in the same position. I have a 625W power supply in my HTPC (leftover from when it had an Extreme CPU and high-end GPU.) But now? A 200W would handle it at max load just fine.

Yay the link I posted in the Corsair thread made its way on over to being news!

What are the "new technical requirements" ? Or is it marketing bullshit?
