Seasonic FOCUS PLUS Gold 550W Power Supply Review

Small computer power supplies that are entirely modular are the cornerstone of Seasonic's Focus Plus series. We are reviewing the Gold variant today rated at 550 watts that has a modern design and with hybrid silent fan control with a fluid dynamic bearing fan. Is the smallest PSU in the Focus Plus series making the cut?

After reading the statement below on the review page I think Seasonic may be all that I purchase from now on.

Editor's Note: Seasonic is the only PSU retailer in North America that supplies HardOCP's review samples out of actual retail stock. The PSU reviewed here was shipped to us by a retailer out of the same stock that you would purchase from. No PSU manufacturers but Seasonic have stepped up to this challenge.)

I will try this again, sorry about previous post and my rambling Mr Kyle, thank you for another quality review however o7

I did not see a "clear difference" between the "old" SSR-650RM (G-650) and the "new" 650FM when I had looked into this on announcement by Seasonic and compared them, the "new one" did not seem to have quite as much "juice" for the 12-5 and 3v but did have slight better standby power use (watts) and did full-modular vs having bare essential need to use 99% of builds out there I call on this last point a wash, at least for me.

only other thing was 7 year vs 5 year warranty, I think (or should say if I recall) there might have been slight shortening of the cables provided and possibly slight difference in physical size as well, maybe different fan being used?

Either way, it is Seasonic and they are top notch for build quality and reliability IMO, so the "old" like I am using vs the "new" being focus, focus plus, focus gold, platinum etc, all is good, they are all very well made units.

the 550w units pretty much follow the 650s as far as voltages and the like (I read up on the 550-650-750 at the time seeing as I had purchased 650 few months prior)

Good to hear. I put this in my wife's build and another to replaced an EVGA in my HTPC that had a loud fan that sounded like a diesel engine. I didn't bother with EVGA RMA since it's the 2nd EVGA PSU to have a bad fan (different models). I just moved on...

What does this have to do with our review? You do understand there is an entire PSU forum here for you to post questions in?

Seeing these reviews is like watching the Michael Phelps swim:

They just don't lose and you know the outcome before it even starts.

Im so glad I chose a Seasonic unit, based solely on a HardForum review.

Always love some good PSU reviews. Seasonic recently released/announced their Focus SGX-650 shortened SFX-L PSU.

It'll be neat to see what Seasonic can do in the SFX market. A 10 year warranty isn't something we've seen in the SFX market until now.
