Seagate FireCuda Gaming (Compute) 2TB $59.99

8GB SSD cache is kinda pathetic .. 5400RPM for the rest of it.

You can get 1TB SSD for $20 more

The 8 GB is to cache the most used files that the drive learns over time, so it still can be quite beneficial. Also a 1 TB SSD is half the space so it certainly depends on the buyer if that is worth it.

There is no intelligent learning going on, the drive has no filesystem awareness, it's just caching the last 8GB accessed.

Problem is people will tend to use this as a game drive, and with game sizes these days in the 25-150GB range, won't make much diff

You are wrong. According to info easily Googled, the flash modules, in combination with the intelligent firmware, cache the most used files and increase the access speed and times to those. Please stop spreading FUD.

... cache the most used ...

Blocks. Not files as truly the thing knows nothing of filesystems. But it does know that a particular set of addresses is being hit a lot and so increases the lifetime of the data at those addresses in the cache.

It does work but I question how much the type of game impacts that, as well as the mix of games being played from the drive. I'm thinking tournament style stuff would do well and long form like RPGs not so much.

These are good for PS4. SSD aren't much of a setup over this drive with the PS4 bastardized SATA it uses.
