Seagate 1.5TB Firmware Update Fix

Is there anything you can do for drives already bricked?

Contact Seagate, and they can help you send it to someone who can un-brick the device. No data loss, the drive fails to boot its firmware after a while due to a bug. The specialists have the tools to flash the firmware directly.

Please click on the following link for my thread describing in detail exactly what happened when I needed to un-brick the drive. This happened to me, and the issue was resolved by Seagate's i365 data recovery center for free.

If that's not enough information, you can post on either this thread or that one asking for more info. and I'll be glad to tell more about it.

I just got off chat with Seagate support about my three 7200.11 disks. The rep told me that SD1A is the latest firmware for all three of my disks.

Does anyone know why Seagate recommends keeping some disks at SD1A? It just doesn't sit right with me...

Also, for the guy asking about unbricking a drive, it's a quick and easy procedure if you're handy with electronics:

If you already have the materials (primarily an rs-232 level shifter) it takes about five minutes. Of course your warranty will probably be void...

SD1A is good, and isn't the firmware that caused issues. You're good to go if you have that firmware.

I had SD1A and lost all of 800gb of data, drive was completely corrupted out of nowhere--drive has less than 5 hours of use, used solely as back-up. I was unable to recover any data whatsoever. I upgraded to to SD1B and reformatted drive, and am now testing with Seagate tools. I have never completely lost data like this before and am wondering if I should RMA anyway.
