Yeah, I didn't see that coming either. They sure had good fans and coolers at reasonable prices. Perhaps their business decisions were wrong which brought the company down. This is surely a loss for the computer enthusiast market.

Wow, that is a huge surprise and a shock, considering that the Gentle Typhoon series of fans is regarded by enthusiasts as a go-to product. Guess I should stock up on the fans and store them next to my case of Twinkies...

So first DD close down (who makes the blocks) and then Scythe (who provide the fans)...does that mean Hardware Labs are next?

I still can't believe DangerDen had to close. Talk about a staple of the hardware community. If MonoPrice or FrozenCPU close, that's it, I'm turning Amish.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! My favourite Heatsink & Fan company. I've used their coolers in almost *all* of my builds!

I will miss you, very, very much.

That really sucks. It is hard to understand how a company that makes such good product closes down. Count me in on the "gonna stock up" bandwagon.

I fell in love with everything they made, I even fell asleep with their heatsinks next to me in bed, it was painful at times but worth the loyalty! Their fans will hold a special place near my heart as I have replaced my heart with a GT which is not a rebranded product and will surely dissapear.

RIP Scythe, thanks for the memories.

Publicity stunt to sell some fans? :p

But seriously, hopefully management becomes more efficient so we can get a price drop on those bad boys.

I think it was because of their specialism, and because lots of cheaper comanies started mass producing blocks faster than they could, with much lower overheads. They never seemed to do much in the way of advertizing (I only found out about them through forum posts!).

They also were pretty much a US only company, I had to import everything (which worked out cheaper :D) I only ever saw 1 reservior by them. Gah that reminds me, my DD-RAD is slightly cracked (thanks to Fed-Ex)...I'll have to look into repairing it somehow. Will probably make a ring of black milliput or something...then sculpt it. :D

I always liked the feel of their stuff, it never really felt mass produced but kind of hand made (not sure how they made them, probably CNC mill :D) which made them feel kind of special. EK blocks just kind of feel kind of...different somehow. I think stuff like BFG shutting down probably didn't help (they made their blocks) though VGA watercooling has never been huge.

I gotta admit, I'll kinda pissed now. I saw the press release of sorts and went in panic mode.

So now I have a couple of fans on the way I didn't need quite yet. Meh could be worse, but yeah; not cool to play with my emotions company formerly know as Scythe USA, not cool.

Damn.

I have used their fans in all of my builds. I thought some of their designs were very innovative.

Big loss to community.

I just checked newegg.com and they are no longer selling Scythe products O_O! I'm about to do another build and have to go hunt down a vendor my work can use that sells them or fork out my own cash.
