I was wondering if one could get the SY1212SL12H and mod it similar to the gentle typhoon to get a PWM fan.. OR is this fan available in some ghetto (SY1212SL12H-P) ??

I used a similar 100mm fan (the SY1012SL12H(PWM) from the Shuriken) on my 9800GT's Accelero. It just recently died, so I've been looking for a replacement without having to buy the whole heatsink again, and the SY1212SL12H-P caught my eye.

Some random Google result forum post said that you could just email Scythe to buy only the fan. I fired off an email to the sales contact listed at http://www.scytheus.com/contact/ and got this reply a few days later:

Hello Bill,

You can have the SY1212SL12H-P for $5 plus another $5 for shipping & handling for a total of $10.

Please note: Because these are not sold in the market, they do not come with color packages.

I also asked about adding a second fan to the order, figuring it would be cheaper and easier to just pay an extra $5 now and have one on hand.

Because of the added weight. First class mail becomes a parcel.
Shipping would then be $10.
Your total would be $20.
