Sci-Fi Series From George R.R. Martin Coming to SyFy This Fall

hes a hack. and syfy is terrible, besides actually changing their name to SY-FY they are actively throwing every show they can make at the wall to see what can be their own GoT or Breaking Bad. Anything that half of america doesnt watch in the first 2 episodes is immediately canceled. SAD!

The best show they have had in years is The Expanse, and they cancelled it like idiots. No worries thanks to Amazon.

am i the only one here who thought that dark matter was a complete piece of garbage?

yes i love sci-fi shows/movies. i'm even curious about nightflyers. sure it's an event horizon ripoff, but i liked event horizon even if it was complete cheese.

i don't get the dark matter....poorly written, characters had the personality of a cardboard cutout and the cardboard would have probably done better acting.

now i'm going to pout in the corner until more expanse comes out courtesy of amazon.

dark matter definitely sucked. the expanse was brilliant though, especially after the first season.

they cancelled the expanse bc they only had first showing rights, which is a very bad bad deal this day and age where people wait for the season to be over then binge watch. believe me syfy didn't want to cancel for any other reason. they had a bad deal. both netflix and amazon stole the rights to after first showing and stream the expanse. it was a lucrative bidding war and believe me syfy wanted it badly. they actually considered this as their got in space show they've always wanted. but they can't outbid those two (netflix and amazon)

also ps guys, event horizon ripped off nightflyers not the other way around. he wrote it in 1980

Looks like a mash up of Alien, Event Horizon, Pandorum and a bit of Netflix's Lost in Space reboot.

George R.R. Martin is well known for his Game of Thrones series of books and the HBO series, but he also dabbles in Sci-Fi and has a new show coming to SyFy this fall. It's called Nightflyers and the show claims to be a psychological thriller. After watching the trailer some of the scenes remind me of the original Alien, but Martin says it's like Psycho in space. However, since this is on SyFy I'm sure it's going to die off quickly and be replaced just as quickly. Check out (directs to YouTube) the trailer.

Watch the trailer here.

Based on his novella from 1980 and executive produced by him, the new show finds a group of spacefarers embarking on a mission - only to find that not everything aboard their own ship is entirely as it seems.

If it's from the mind of George RR Martin it'll stop 75% of the way through the story and never be finished

Ok so I watched the first episode today (it aired a while back, DVR)

I couldn’t make it through the first one. It reminded me of that Cloverfield Paradox movie on Netflix. Only the pace was all off. I didn’t see any reason why the characters were doing what they were doing, there was no development. The plot is basically just moving from one random unconnected catastrophe to the next.

I wasn’t expecting any better because GRRM was attached, but maybe after Expanse my expectations from SyFy were too
high.

I just binged the first few eps myself and ...

1) They have a shower that can kill you (enclosed in a sealed tube)
2) They don't explain how the mother AI is also some kind of psychic that can read your thoughts and fuck with you mentally (outside of the Holo chamber thingamabob).
3) Seems like they also "conveniently" must have hologram projectors all over the ship, just so they can be hacked to fuck with the protagonists / convenient plot device.
4) Security cams even in private spaces
5) Doors don't seem to be locked, ever.
6) No decontamination protocol for dealing with / touching alien shit - let's just put on some primitive rubber gloves and call it a day (RE: probe that appeared in bedroom)
7) No manual off switch for the spider robots
8) Blame the L1 for everything
9) Why not remove / blank / erase all the "contaminated" computer hardware on the ship. But no ... we're going on a deep space mission with crazy AI still installed.

Regarding #1

Was that a shower? WTF.... I couldn't figure out what that was for, and it still doesn't make sense even after you pointing that out. I thought it had something to do with her being genetically modified for space (whatever the hell that means -- she did have a nice rack)

That's just a guess from me, man. It's the only thing I could figure. You could be right if it's some kind of GMO bacta tank :-D

SYFY is dead to me after they cancelled Dark Matter and the Expanse. Both great shows that they negotiated the worst deals in the in history of deals for, twice. Unbelievable.

At least Amazon has some vision and picked up the Expanse.

I know, right? Syfy would likely just cancel it after a few seasons anyways.

Cancelling the Expanse was one of the most short-sighted decisions in programming history. It's the best sci-fi show in years. Love home or hate him, at least Bezos has good taste in sci-fi.

I remember reading somewhere that SyFy was basically shafted by Alcon with The Expanse. It looked like they paid for it but got nothing in return.

I think the show is... bad. Love the books, just not the show. The new Star Trek is better. They're actually bold and don't pollute the show with nearly as much drama.
