I did some searching and could not find any information on the problem I'm having with this monitor.

Using the Brightness and Contrast greyscale in the Nokia Monitor Test (http://www.construnet.hu/nokia/Monitors/TEST/monitor_test.html) shows very noitceable dithering noise in some shades of grey. The noise is animated like a snowy TV picture. The noise can be eliminated from the greyscale by adjusting the brightness and contrast controls, but that just hides it. In static images and video, the noise reappears when different levels of grey and black are present. It can't be eliminated.

I've tried different video cards, drivers, computers, and cables, thus ruling out all those factors. I'm currently using a high-quality DVI cable connected to an Asus 7300LE in a Shuttle SD32G2 with a C2D 6300.

I'd like to know if this noise is a normal artifact on this monitor, or if my particular unit is somehow defective. Thanks.

yea mine has noise too...i dont think its a defect...just the way the monitor is? it seems to only appear in nokia tester....regular grey pictures dont show this "noise"

Hey, thanks for the reply.

This noise will appear frequently in images and videos with a lot of darker details where certain shades will shimmer while others won't. It's ridiculously distracting for me.

I bought this LCD for someone else actually, but I don't think I can accept this flaw.

hey do you have an image or something that i can test too? i dont notice it at all with videos and such

I also noticed an annoying dithering of all dark colors on my Sceptre X22wg, as well as shimmering fringing (http://sdcc17.ucsd.edu/~jlgallag/sceptre/lcd1.jpg). I contacted Sceptre tech support and described the problem, and they issued an RMA. The result? They ship back my original monitor without fixing it or even adjusting it (did not even contact me before they chose to send it back) only they kept the dvi and audio cable (their rma instructions state that you should send back all the original items). They decided to keep some screws and hex locking screws, I've circled the ones I've noticed missing so far (http://sdcc17.ucsd.edu/~jlgallag/sceptre/02.jpg). Oh and the nice shiny part of the base of the stand? scratched and scuffed now. I guess I'm supposed to be thankful that the screen was covered with removable smudges but free of scratches?

 Definitely a worthy upgrade over my Sceptre X20G-NagaIII, the noticeable shimmering dither is a fantastic addition. They have such wonderful customer service too.
