Anybody has any experiment this before. We will be hosting a this sbs server in our data center. We order a 2 quad core processor and 8gb of ram with i think just a normal 3 sata drives. Overall question is will it work without buying another server just for terminal use.

Depends on the application(s) being hosted in Terminal Server, and how many users at the same time.

Right off the bat....it will not be a good performer. SBS itself is VERY heavy, and combine that with having SBS on SATA drives....ugh, not much clearance for other things like a virtual host inside of it.

I would naturally want to mix SBS with other virtual hosts unless it was at least a quad xeon on 15k SAS drives with several arrays and an array dedicated to a virtual host.

If the app(s) you have to host in TS is light, and you have a low amount of users...it may run tolerably.

how are you planning to do the virtualization? Is this SBS2008 Premium? If you're doing premium then you can install the second server as a Hyper-V host on the physical box then install the first and second servers as VMs on it. Use the second server for terminal services. That will be your best bet for doing this on one host and get support for the configuration.

Also, seriously consider dumping the SATA drives for SAS. The only way you're going to get decent performance with SATA for Exchange/SQL is if you have 6-8 disks in your array.

Should be maximum of 5 users.. Only reason for a terminal server is because you cant have more than two user login to a sbs server.

"more than two user login to a sbs server"

We may want to explore this more, if it's just to get logins to SBS itself...are these regular users? And why would regular users be logging into SBS remotely?
