SAS SCSI vs. SATA Hard Drives

Since SATA and SAS SCSI drives will be using the same conection interface, will the SAS SCSI drives require a raid card or will they be able to be used like any other SATA hard drive?

I think you may be a bit confused here...

SAS drives will not require a RAID controller. They will work on a standard (non-RAID) SAS controller or SAS RAID controller just like parallel SCSI drives.


SAS and SATA share a common physical interface. You will be able to connect SATA drives to SAS controllers (RAID or non-RAID), but you will not be able to connect SAS drives to SATA controllers (well, you can plug them in, but it won't work)
