Sandy Bridge adopters -- post your new build.

If anyone wants to give F@H a shot with their new Sandy Bridge platform, I threw together a quick setup guide in the DC section. It would only take 60-80 over clocked 2600k's to put us ahead of EVGA in point output...

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1577876

Michael, how hot do those three get togethor? You going to leave them on air or put them under water??

Final Build. See my sig. The Fractal Design cases are the best I've ever used. I like them better than Antecs, Nmedia, Silverstone or Lian-Li ($ per value).

I'm using the define XL too, it is a really good case. But the suppied fans are rubbish! (they hardly develope any pressure) I've just brought 3 1000rpm 140mm fans, hopefully that should improove the cooling a great deal.

PS: overclock that 2500k!

I recommend picking up a couple gentle typhoon 1850's with that Hyper 212, my hottest core under full load is 61C with the overclock in my sig.

I also put the system together with the stock intel heatsink first, that thing hit 80C under load at stock settings! I can't believe they consider that adequate when it is outside their temperature specs at stock speed.

becareful here, a 6950 might not fit in a storm scout

Pulled the trigger yesterday, should be here by Wed. next week... :D

Fractal Design XL mini-review:

It has an invertible PSU housing (Brilliant idea). It has excellent cable management features.
The case fans don't move much air but I don't mind because they are the quietest fans I've ever heard. (Not a Noctua owner... lol)
I have 7 hard drives in it right now and I will be moving to 10 to 12 hard drives in the next year. The are all cool to the touch and the sound deadening is EXCELLENT.
The little door behind the motherboard CPU socket is bloody genius! Being able to install bracket HSFs without removing the Mobo is wonderful.
I have a radeon 6950 (12 inches) in the Fractal Design XL and I still have over 2 inches of room before it hits the hard drives. Bring on the 14 inch video cards!

Show me one other case that can hold 10+ hard drives with all the design features of a Fractal and still cost less than $150! Good luck.

hehe, i put together a 2600K + 6970 for someone with the storm scout, put everything together, then tried to insert the video card and /facepalm'ed for 5 minutes then moved everything in to a cheap $30 rosewill case :(

After alot of internal debate I finally decided it was time to upgrade, too many games coming out this year :)

ASUS VE276Q Black 27" Full HD HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor
!

Buy the Asus VE278Q instead. It's a better monitor in every way.

Also invest in a solid state if you really care about gaming. It makes a giant difference in loading times, level caching, BF3 (Giant maps).

That's v. similar to the p182 build I'm considering! It should be very quiet. Is it?

I emailed Asus about the lack of PLL overvolt options on the P8P67-M Pro and they sent me a bios file named 0413 and the one line instructions to "try this".

I'm going to give it a whirl tonight, hopefully I can break past the 47x multiplier.;)

Building a new rig, wonder if I need to replace the old PSU, or is it enough?

Asus p8p67 pro

And some Blu ray player drive.

Is an OCZ 600w enough, or need to be replaced as well?

Thanks

Out of all the builds, whats the highest anyone has gone for voltage?

Seems like a whole bunch of us went with Hyper 212+. It's a good cooler. hitting around 28C idle with mine. Haven't pushed it at all.

Mine was able to hit 5ghz on 1.46. Temps made me a tad uncomfortable tho so I bumped it back to 4.8.

My build is my sig....

2600K @ 5.0Ghz with 1.42v Turbo V setting (1.416v CPUz reading)

4.8Ghz 24/7 with 1.35v Turbo V setting (1.344v CPUz reading)

Asus P8P67 Pro
i7-2600k
XFX Radeon 9650

Reused:

Intel X25-M G2 160GB
2 x 2GB G.Skill DDR3-2000
Xigmatek HDT-1283 cooler
Coolermaster HAF-232 case
Corsair TX-750

What I am getting:-

Intel Core i5-2500K
Foxconn P67A-S
GeIL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler

What I will be reusing :-

Corsair TX650 psu,
5 sata hard drives, largest 1TB,
Bluray drive and DVD rom drive,
XClio Windtunnel case.

Upgraded from
Q6600 at 3.1 Ghz (couldn't get it to go any higher)
Foxconn X38a motherboard,
4GB Ram.

Since I've pretty much exhausted all my other possible upgrades, I've had to reconsider avoiding Sandy Bridge (but not for the overclocking, oddly enough).

From Mighty Mouse, I'm keeping the drives (all of them), however, that's it. (Mom got the smaller of the two HDDs from Mighty Mouse - which used to be its boot drive - it's currently *her* boot drive, which will serve her well when she get's the mobo preferably this week.)

CPU - Intel i5-2500K
I had actually considered the Pentium G620; however, the $40 saving on my motherboard choice put i5-K in contention, and killed the lower-end CPU.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589

HSF - CoolerMaster Hyper212 Plus
A rare aftermarket HSF that provides decent cooling without being a gorilla to install or costing half-a-mint.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0315397

Motherboard - ASUS P8Z68-V LX
Price, price, and Ivy-ready. MicroCenter's lowest-priced Ivy-ready Z68-based motherboard. Surprisingly, it's also full-size ATX, has a UEFI BIOS, and includes all the gotta-have Z68 features.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0371775

GPU - MSI HD6770 GDDR5 (R6770-MD1GD5)
The bargain among in-stock HD6770 GPUs - before rebates ($114.99 including tax - there's a $25 MIR). While it's still dual-slot, it only requires a single 6-pin PCIe power plug.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0367844

Memory - MicroCenter DDR3-1333 (4 GB x2) (already purchased - 10/27/2011 @ MicroCenter Fairfax, VA)
Yes - the price actually went down compared to my original choice - in fact, 16 GB (4 GB x4) is (don't faint!) $83. Including tax.
Definitely buy.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0361035

PSU - Antec High-Current GAMER HCG-520
Not many single-rail PSUs that are both less than 600W and under $80 can deal 8-pin EPS power and drive CrossFire or SLI - this is one of them.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0048405

CASE - CoolerMaster HAF912
Cost for replacement fans for my admittedly long-toothed Lian-Li combined with February MC Case Event has put the HAF budget beastie on the list.
Major change from the Lian-Li is PSU placement (the HAF uses a bottom-mount) - however, the HAF waxes the Lian-Li (and the Antec Three Hundred, the only other option in this size) as far as cable-management - that it's also friendly to water-cooling (still possible down the road) doesn't hurt in the least.

This just got here a few minutes ago. I have to head back to work, so I won't be able to start the build until later. I will post pics and results when I can. For now ... this is what I have.

cut and paste from my DC thread

first and formost the desk is my wife's shes a pink fanatic. I just invaded the space for the build. Granted there may be a cheaper route of doing this but i wanted to play with a 2600k and this was a perfect opportunity to do that. Thats why i chose the 2600k

i wanted this to be a GPU build over a cpu folder. I plan on rotating GPU's out as needed.

i was going to wait till i got the psu and 2 460's in but since it has 3 of 4 cards in it and im putting it in production later tonight. i thought i would share now

This box is named "Chuck" it is dedicated to my grandfather Charles. He suffers from some major shit called Alzheimer's. Its getting bad. My grandmother is a very strong women and takes care of him. I dont know how she does it day in and day out. Im predicting he will either pass away in the next 2 years or my grandmother will have to put him in a nursing home. She refuses to do this till the very end.

This is my folding box dedicated to him. It is missing 2 video cars at the moment and has a replacement 470 in it now that will be swapped out later when my 2 other 460's come in and my larger power supply.

i will update benchmarks and stuff as i progress with it.

2600k 4.7ghz.
asus ws revolution
2x2gig gskill ripjaws 1600.
4x nvidia 460gtx. (currently has 2 460's and 1 470.)
1200 corsair psu (currently has corsair 750 powering the 3gpu's and the board)
40gb intel x25 ssd
