I suppose for that niche that tries to use their phones for work flows instead of a PC this could be a good thing or those with deep pockets who travel and want to watch a lot of video. At $2k though, they're the only ones who could really afford this. It is a nice looking screen though. I wonder how durable it is and what issues my come up over time?

I sure they'll improve the design considerably in the next iteration or two and hopefully get the price down to at least a more reasonable $1500 or so and then I may consider getting one. As of now though, I'd take the Note or any larger traditional phone over that even if excluding price as a factor.

A $2,000 foldable tablet? Do they really want to sell any of these at all?

And just how many fold/unfold cycles can that middle section of the screen truly handle before being damaged?

I want to get back to $350 mid range phones from trusted non-chinese brands. This is just nonsense.

As cute and gimmicky as this nosebleed-priced device is...technically it's disappointing. If it unfolded into a 12-15" screen then it could replace other useless devices for only $8-10k. Still waiting for the Origami Edition.

So a phone that:
  • Is really thick
  • Is heavy
  • Is next to impossible to use single handed, except when you are using the crappy small single screen.
  • Has a crease down the middle of the screen when opened.
  • Costs 2K+
  • Has a gap by the hinge, I can only imagine the durability issues if any real weight is applied then...
Yeah, no thanks.

Yea lifecycle of these niche devices I don't see being all that great. I hope they sell millions of them so they have good reason to advance the tech to the next level. But that device as it exists today? No thanks. Water resistance matters. Even more than porn on a foldable display.

LG prices plummet so much the V35 is $360 on Amazon for AT&T, new not refurbished if you buy from Cellmigo. Same 845 as the Note 9, not really midrange. It is only .07 mm taller than the S10 and they're both 157g.

Pixel 2 would also work, though with fewer unopened.

The thing that bugs me about this device is they just did these amazing innovations this year with the Hole Punch and Pill shaped in screen cameras and sensors to completely avoid bezels this year on all their flagship devices that cost almost half what this costs. Then they launch this fold able phone and add bezels making the phone seem like It's a New Idea on a old technology. Outer screen is too small for my taste(Huge forehead and chin as well as side cheeks). Bezel is annoying on the big screen.

Wake me up when the Galaxy fold 2 with a full size bezel-less outer screen and a bezel-less inner screen comes out.

Yeah I really don't get it. The phone looks HORRIBLE.... oh and tons are starting to show up breaking within a couple days lul

Are we looking at the same picture? It looks like it only has a thin border all around, nowhere near the chins and foreheads of phones just a few years ago.

Someone who wants a smartphone and a tablet but doesn't want to carry around a tablet.

I get the appeal of it personally, though ideally it would be lighter, thinner, and have a larger/better screen when folded. I think if those things could be achieved, along with of course hardware reliability and lower price, it could be a compelling product.

The screen on the front of the phone is far too small. The fold technology still isn't ready yet judging by the creases that form and the defects reviewers are already experiencing. Samsung rushed this out to be one of the first to market with a foldable phablet and it shows. Definitely not worth anywhere near the $2K price tag.

So basically if it could be everything it's not then it would be good. Sounds like there is a long way to go.

I like it. Stereo speakers finally. But that camera bezel is horrible for watching movies in landscape mode.
Reliability looks as expected.. That's probably why they have to charge so much for warranty.
4k mAh isn't near enough though, tiny battery for that, I bet not replaceable either.

It's really not the size of a tablet though.... it's barely that much bigger than a Note... but its a whole lot thicker. and looks awful...

This really strikes me as the thing you think you want, until you actually try to use it. It's going to be a lot more clunky to hold and use that a normal phone. It really doesn't seem worth the trade-off, even before you get to price and durability issues.

I think you may have seen the outer screen displaying a black screen on a black front, which hides the outer screen size well. Here is what it looks like. Screen doesn't go to the edges on either side, has an enormous Forehead and chin.

A lot of interesting comments in here to think about...

1.) Why the large bezels on the outside screen? It's a small, cheaper screen, not designed to do your main work on.
2.) Why the large bezels on the inside screen? It's new tech, made of plastic, not glass. Why anyone expect all the same tech to just "work" and immediately be included with this?
3.) You can't use it with one hand? That's just physics... Either you want the larger screen or you want a smaller screen. The larger screen isn't ever going to be one handed functional and it seems absurd to want it to be.
4.) Huawei got it right? Having a plastic screen on the outside makes it prone to scratching and other impact damages, even in the pocket. I don't know about you all, but I put my phone in my pocket with the screen facing in so accidentally bumping the desk won't be directly on the screen. Also, you can see the warping of the Huawei screen, despite the the low quality of the video. And it's Huawei - I don't really trust them not to have Chinaware on them...
5.) How many folds can it handle? Supposedly they are tested to 200,000 folds, although that's "perfect" folds, not real life folds.
6.) Why is there an annoying notch? That's not a notch. A notch is in the middle of the screen. This is more like the way LG did their second screen (V10 and V20). They didn't want to waste the screen space having a forehead all the way across the top of the folding screen, the way you would with a normal phone rectangular screen.
7.) Why is there a front facing camera at all? Because without it, how would you video chat? With all that real estate, why would you worry about a relatively low impact cut from the screen? Why are you so annoyed by it?
