Text looks darn good in Game mode as I can barely tell the difference. I bought this for 4:4:4 PC mode but ended not not using it. How ironic.
Nonetheless. This thing rocks as PC monitor. 4K gaming is mind blowing coming from 1080P.

i've been using it for ~4 months in PC mode. i can't believe the difference in game mode. it makes me think i had a setting or something wrong all this time. coming from an actual PC monitor to this, game mode looks almost identical to my 1440p IPS...

there have been 2 firmware updates since i bought mine. i wonder if one of them changed something.

did you run the 4:4:4 tests in game mode? mine passes.

in re-reading the review from Rtings there is nothing saying the TV does not output 4:4:4 in game mode. you just need "UHD" activated on HDMI1. the question is the claim that you must enable PC mode to get sharper text. this is no longer the case... at least on my set. Text is SIGNIFICANTLY better on game mode compared to PC mode with the only viewable setting difference being "color space" set to native. this option is greyed out in PC mode. all other settings are the same.

"For sharper text 4:4:4 you must set the input type to 'PC'. For 4K@60Hz@4:4:4 you must enable UHD mode. This is only possible on HDMI1."

3. Improved stability
4. Improved usability of input devices

looking for more info on the update as the above seems to be the same copy/paste update notes

the 1154 update is the one that adds HDR to the YouTube app. playing this HDR playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyqf6gJt7KuGArjMwHmgprtDeY8WDa8YX using the TV's app I am not getting the "HDR video is playing" pop up that i get on PS4 or Xbox One S when playing an HDR game or blu ray.

this post from the Samsung forums for the KU7000 indicates he did get the HDR pop up...

"Yes, 1154 is newer than 1142. I haven't found much of a difference between the two releases. Someone pointed out that with firmware 1154 the youtube app displays an HDR notification on the video when a 4K HDR youtube video starts to play. Which I can verify appears when using this HDR sample video on my TV running firmware1154. I did not test this functionality with 1142, so if you're still on 1142 use the sample video and see if the HDR notification appears."

Did you use this:
http://abload.de/img/chromaresmzjib.png

You should see "4:4:4" only.

i see 4:2:2 on that image in PC mode and Game mode (no change) with UHD color on from HDMI 1. the image is at 100%. made no difference in fullscreen (f11) or windowed mode...

Nvidia control panel
3840x2160 @60hz
32bit desktop color depth
8bpc output color depth
RGB color format
Full dynamic range

the TV pop up menu confirms UHD 3840x2160/60p HDMI UHD COLOR

I have a high end 27" monitor with ips type screen but I'll have to read through the thread more to see about getting a tv like this as a gaming monitor.

Does the nvidia control panel in adjust display settings lag horribly on this tv for anyone else? I need to have the panel on the other external panel to have it behave normally.

Also this display does not do 4:4:4 in console mode. However, it still looks good enough tbh if you don't care for it (if you set sharpness to 0).

ok, i think i finally figured out the difference in "game mode" text and PC. when i edit my PC and change it to Game Console "picture mode" is set to "game" and is not accessible. if i swap it back to "PC" you can now change "picture mode" to either standard or dynamic. changing this to dynamic improves the text significantly. it actually looks better than when in game mode. in comparing the settings, it appears "dynamic" just moves sharpness from 0 to 50 (and retains my previous settings). if i leave it set to dynamic and lower sharpness to 0 it looks like crap again. now going to "standard" picture mode and changing sharpness to 50 it looks the same as "dynamic".

everything i've read about this TV here and in the settings from Rtings.com indicates sharpness should be 0 for PC and Game. can somebody else confirm if their text looks significantly better in PC mode with sharpness at 50 or with PC listed as a game console? i think i may have a problem with my HDMI cable or some other voodoo going on.

mine takes ~5 seconds to come up after right clicking desktop and clicking "Nvidia Control Panel". once it's up though it works like normal. i can apply changes and move around without issue. i have an i5 4670k@ 4ghz and a 980Ti if that matters.

andy4theherd I find that using HDMI 1/DVI and Game Mode gives me the best looking picture for PC and PS4 (though I have to disable Game Mode for the Blu-Ray player). I don't know why the settings are so confusing on this TV but that is what I found.

Also, I found the reason for the repeated black outs on the HDMI switch. Seems I had my Blu-Ray player set to 4:4:4 12-bit color by accident, which somehow worked connected directly, but not with the switch. After setting it back to Auto it seems it may be on 4:2:2 (just guessing) and that stopped the black outs.

i just did the chroma test http://abload.de/img/chromaresmzjib.png again. i saved the image and opened with Windows Image viewer. this is what i got in PC mode with UHD color on and the following Nvidia settings:
Nvidia control panel
3840x2160 @60hz
32bit desktop color depth
8bpc output color depth
RGB color format
Full dynamic range

i had to move in closer with my phone to get the 4:4:4 image to show up in the picture. the image is the same size (1920x1080) in each shot. the only difference was me sliding the sharpness from 0 to 50.

I believe in PC mode, sharpness set to 50 is the same as sharpness set to 0 out of PC mode, so if you're in PC mode you should have it at 50. Also, I discovered that the "HDMI1/DVI" and "PC" labels use the same settings and "Cable Box", "Game Console" and "Blu-ray player" use their own separate settings, so changing settings for one of those it will change in the other. In other words, HDMI1/DVI and PC are the same, and Cable Box, Game Console, and Blu-ray player are the same. This TV's settings really are confusing...

As metioned before 0 in game mode = 50 in pc mode for sharpness. I have noticed making changes in console mode and then pc mode. These settings are definitely stored differently. It's easy to swap from one mode to the other if you need it. Seems going to concsole mode for gaming and pc mode for regular use would work best. I find that the contrast and saturation seems to be overblown in game mode using the exact same tv calirbration settings across the board for contrast, brightness, backlight, white balance, color tone etc. I guess you could turn down the color in console mode but it doesn't seem to make a drastic difference.

I've been using game mode instead of PC mode just to experiment after reading the forum, and I think I actually like game mode more as well. I've gotten used to the lower latency, and going back to PC mode, mouse movement just feels a tad bit too slow. With game mode, the latency feels about the same as my previous monitor. I found that turning down the contrast and color a few notches in game mode gets you pretty much the same picture as PC mode if you feel the colors are a bit overblown. Also, I don't really notice a difference in text clarity even though it's not 4:4:4.

i wouldn't get it for FPS "twitch" shooters if you are harcore. in "game mode" this TV has 20ms input lag. that is very good for a TV and comparable to average PC monitors. in comparison, the last EVO tournament used Asus monitors with 10ms input lag. i had a Shimian 1440p IPS before this with 10ms input lag and i don't notice it. i also don't play a lot of multiplayer FPS games though.

Finally, the 1154 update is ready for the KU6290! It doesn't show up in Samsung's website though, but the TV is downloading it.

While updating, the TV had some weird artifacting (this went away after the update). After the TV turned itself off and back on again, it said it was updated:

lVRo1mHp4wL6tN6668jS7EMhYtjosdxsa7_PZ5bcr9IR6E0zeF-5ADlJguD9QScar1ZrZa4pul12JE6X-OIoEQbMkVux0do7p5Y_7z1DFryl5TVNReR8za42QHEbn372pVKO6hUamXeg4HP-voHr-KkG43_RjV-4J4k68WudAbR6SGcAEq8z5-tH-LlOxPVrQ28jZXyYClKNMUnYLbCmiw5AsJFtEY6NwXqFTKr0tjPjcfDO17KX31IzEvFrYINbIOULUhTda0w5B5jHZ6I-mfTd0IXq-QciTchtlbxc8Ul7CYQ5cR_mKENybkaQ0nysiNP1zLTGK3Zp0BNqN8Yf16m9v3j4Lv2tWHQSwrVM5dNn2LNrEPp90eaDWrJzw_6KA6z0K--9_HJiDN-iWDUCCmNr17X25grYs-9-wgMNXaKeKyxnxF4r5mXE_ExzMzIdVV2krE9q2_yYanlK_bY5qog-OoHttu4aCoU5YwrArV2TLFwT20XrFAHQvX6FHVtx_CoopiXKcf1bsdd2Xacbpv05Ag7F2_2QaPSKqQjMR4kUVI5YTr47k0NvIsOTmGHmaiByF15yWM6ZHV1C6FCDMkDk_bhGhorR9SlkMN4VqEkh9vHooJ877g=w1920-h1080-no

This didn't seem true to me, as the Software Update was disabled for about 3 minutes after taking this picture, and after that I got a notification that the TV had been updated to 1154 (the weird artifacting kept going until this point, once that notification showed up, it stopped, which leads me to believe it was still updating).

Now, the YouTube app does load HDR videos correctly:

lenZ4l2FHiMcTtDy0afEMNDScZ5u7cE2BxHswGI9MxNILnpj78vkZi4CWeZN8Z2MFtEGwh8oZcePBsUJM03jqwW9vHtRaMMRYB7POn0SuF_6FKSEnf-5qeIbP02Lkk1s1Fx9TB4WVE-VcF9bopc5VDP7_pNjVCXi0SxYswQrMzxEc38GXKEcKX9qUANy_pkfwTxl2T3ffUsOha7MEyDBUV3jmD7JlHOlKhrrFh7fw0WNYlIB_twg7ol6vGDfJkWdZgKJXs7_8vI0tvXaUjkwrZbHHnX6poNZbkOdGkvVAmZdlEZ1kbLSE0LR-7eHgMn3jkg5TIkiQkQH-RGnc3xnOp-YOP22fdbs2jeM02Jq0tjf9OVbQNzKwD45LMJ8cd5-Ny5qZztmzPfGbX1lW9prsraTc1O4hP-mwp_VQazm2cabt6yeVRvcSQ2eoqnijOdZI56bh5PlXccrRx9L9y0X0VjVZ2oEOkOABgeg68JmfwyfsXsvLkUwtyXvR6si1TcwaBhHRapuDwJ9cCVnVgbRanvlT2G2k9DXhWpAHcMpOtQXvsgPfMbzT2vj1XjCFucUZgTqgLctmxhBjRH-ceJIL9XKLdJg9yox_b2QwuJ4osDKRqh7NCE4QA=w1920-h1080-no

That said, I see ZERO difference in these videos - we know this panel doesn't reproduce HDR in all its glory. However, I did see a noticeable difference when loading Prime video, where I played Mozart in the Jungle as I know it's recorded in HDR, and boy did that look way better. Not HDR-amazing, but definitely improved: better contrast, smoother gradations, etc.

i am seeing the same "HDR" box on the videos. i assumed the info banner at the top of the TV that appears saying "HDR video playing" that i see when playing a game or watching a movie with HDR would pop up.

i have gotten those same artifacts a few times randomly. turning the TV off and back on sometimes fixes. other times i've had to reboot my PC. they only ever appeared right after booting up.

Yup, YouTube looks pretty much the same. Maybe they need another update to the app? Playing videos through USB though, some of them definitely look better, like contrast is improved. Other than that, everything seems the same and I'm also not getting the HDR pop up.

people on the Samsung forum confirmed that the KU7000 does get the pop up now.

We would have to check what app version those people are using. The KU6290 app says it was updated in April, so I'm guessing it'll need an update for it to work properly?

I've just played a bunch of shows that showed supported HDR on Amazon Prime, and despite there not being an HDR pop up in the TV, there is no doubt whatsoever that those videos look way, way better. Again, gradations and contrast are much improved than what they used to be. There doesn't seem to be a way for me to check if I'm indeed playing HDR video through the Amazon app, but there's at least a palpable improvement.

Did anyone get a new update ?

It was giving some dialog boxes to consent and a lot of artifacts on screen while I think the update was going on.

On my 6290 I had automatic updates turned off but something with the policies updated when I turned on the TV. I went and checked my updates and I am running 1150, it shows the newest 1154 available but will not install it when I try. Weird thing when I turned on the TV to those messages I had the blue flickers everywhere as mentioned earlier but a simple power cycle solved the issue.

Same thing happened to me. I tried to avoid updating too until i knew more about it but I couldn't use any of the features of the TV...they definitely twisted my arm into accepting the update. Mine was also artifacting out of the blue, a power cycle didnt fix it and dis/reconnecting didnt fix it. As far as i can tell, the artifcatiing was happening at the signal level because none of the menus were affected; only the picture behind the menus.

I've also been getting weird artifacts since I got this TV a couple weeks ago, which seemed to go away for a while when I power cycled my TV. I was worried for a while that my TV was defective, I guess that isn't the case - must've just been a firmware bug. So far on version 1154 I haven't noticed any artifacting, just for the life of me I can't seem to get 4:4:4 chroma to work with my PC with game mode disabled. AMD's control panel is saying that my display is running at 12 bit/4:4:4 color, which isn't even supported by HDMI 2.0, while any image test I look at shows that I'm actually running at 4:2:2 color space. Forcing 8 bit color depth doesn't seem to change anything.

with the PC set to "game console" and sharpness at 0 you can only see 4:2:2. with sharpness at 50 you can still easily see 4:2:2 and can just barely make out 4:4:4

That's the expected result. You can only get 4:4:4 in PC mode (which has 16ms more lag than game mode). You just had the sharpness set wrong.

Man, I was getting the blue "matrix" artifacts too!!! I wasn't sure what was going on, so I didn't want to scare you guys. I made a video a few weeks ago but never uploaded it.

Originally I thought it was my GPU, because I had artifacts before and went through an RMA. Then (after getting the new GPU and new artifacts) I questioned if it was something on the PCI-E slot. Finally I noticed the glitch lines on my PS4, so it was confirmed not to be the PC. They even show up over the TV menu, so it's clearly in the TV.

However, after updating to 1150 they seemed to have gone away. At least it's been almost 1 month and I haven't seen them. Somewhat glad to hear I'm not alone, must be a bug in the firmware or something.

If you want to see if the TV is in HDR mode, press the middle button on the remote. Look on the top right next to the resolution info. There is a rectangle box that says [UHD] next to it should be an [HDR] box too if the signal is HDR.

that's what I usually do but it doesn't work when using one of the TV apps like Youtube or Amazon.

OK, got it. It also doesn't work on my Blu-Ray player because the remote tries to be universal and control the player and not the TV. I haven't figured out how to disable that, I'd really like to be able to see the input details.

so the artifacts went away:

I guess the consent dialog boxes were pre-update, even though I have auto-update set to on (maybe I'll turn it off from now on)

I manually forced 1154 and it installed / restarted the TV but all the menus were very slow upon restart so that scared me a little bit, but I think it was updating them (Netflix Preview, etc...) and eventually things calmed down.

Not that much smooth of an update this time...

Not sure what you mean by ISF. If you just want a color profile, I posted one for my KU6290 a few pages back (should also work for the KU6300 as they're essentially the same panel). Keep in mind, no TV panel is exactly the same so using the same ICC profile doesn't give exact results between TVs, but they should be pretty close (and certainly miles better than what comes out of the factory).
