Samsung T240HD Review + Pics

I'm exchanging my t260hd because I have to mess with the power cord to get it to work properly. If i barely move the monitor the cord becomes loose and the monitor shuts off. For people who have one of these does it feel like the cord fits snugly in the back or can you still wiggle it quite a bit? mine never feels secure.

Lol I had the exactly same "problem" when I first received my t240HD, it is easily solved by giving it a stronger push when fitting it in, just hold your monitor with one hand (close to the power input) and give the power cord a good push (it can fit further). Don't be scared, the power cord will fit perfectly.

Hey can anyone tell me what the input lag is on the T240 non HD version? Is it any better?

It is a lot better according to digital versus. go to their site and look yourself the comparison links usually don't work when I post them.

Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a remote that will work with the t240hd? I found one online but it was 60 bucks! Help plz

Does anyone have any idea if Samsung does replacements/fixes on units that ship with horizontal banding? Out of all the freaking Samsung models I have to deal with it would be the one I order for myself that comes with a minor banding issue :(

As for the mount thing Rip, I didn't think any of this like was VESA mountable.

Some people were talking about input lag, I was wondering if they were talking about when you are swapping VGA, DVI and HDMI input via side buttons or just general lag from input signal? (while playing games for exemple...)

I bought the Samsung T240 non HD 10 days ago and I notice a time of wait of like maybe 1 sec or 2 when swapping input via side button.

Everything looks very nice on the monitor when I'm on my computer

BUT when I plug my Playstation3 (via HDMI)
I feel like the image is stretch a bit vertically. I know the non HD version doesn't do 1 for 1 pixel mapping and is 16x10, but I really find the graphic of my Ps3 games really ugly, I see alot of pixels and grains... same for blue-rays I see a lot of grains that I don't see on my friend pioneer plasma TV. maybe the resolution of a monitor is too high for PS3?
I don't know what to think anymore...
I don't know if I'm being too picky but my last monitor was a LG L222WT 21.5 inches (1600x1050) and when I play Ps3 games on 1080p it looked nice except for ghost horizontal lines!

I was wondering if anyone with the Samsung T240HD had plug in his PS3 on it, how are the graphics on games and blue-ray movies?

Will the 1 for 1 pixel mapping and the 16x9 will fix anything if I get the HD version?
Is it really worth it? like a big difference (night & day) between the HD version and the non HD version? (PS3 wise and blue-ray)

Because the HD version is not avaible in Canada yet, so I will have to order it...

or should I just go with a LCD TV instead of a monitor? I only need like 24'', 26'' or at most 32''. It's mostly for computer and PS3...

Thanks for your help

**Off topic** News for the gamers Nvidia is developping 3D glasses for games and movies like Imax, but it will only work on TV/Monitor with 120 Hz refresh rate...

If you play PS/XB on a 1920x1200 monitor without 1:1 mapping, then it will stretch and look funky yes.

You need one with 1:1.

Hmmm I notice you're playing Bog on COD4 there.

The PS3 version is night time!

To anyone who has this monitor:

I've read that the monitor has 1:1 pixel mapping. Does this mean when playing XBox 360 through HDMI in a game that displays in 720p, there will be black bars above/below, AND on each side?

Alexheinz

Could you tell me more about the viewing angles? I have a samsung 245b that sucks because you cannot see anything unless straight ahead. I was planning to get a Dell ultrasharp 2408WFP but if you can convince me that the angles are tolerable, id love to save the money which is double what this costs.

hes playing story mode, so its day, in an online match it is dark.

on the first page theres a picture of cod at 720p, as you can see there is only black bars on the top, this is because 720p is still a 16:9 resolution.

on the first page theres a picture of cod at 720p, as you can see there is only black bars on the top, this is because 720p is still a 16:9 resolution.

But the actual resolution for 720p is 1280x720, right? So then the image would not be true at 720p being as the monitor is meant to be 1920 pixels wide? I know it's a 1.5:1 ratio between 1280 and 1920, so how is a monitor going to split colors into halfs inside of a single pixel? Do you get what I am saying?

Wouldn't true 1:1 make the monitor put black bars on left/right/top/bottom of the image?

For example, say this laptop that I am on. It has a native resolution of 1440x900. A native 16:10 resolution. However, if I turn the resolution to 1280x720, a 16:9 resolution, it only displays 1280x720 pixels for the game, and there are black bars around the entire outside of the screen, top, bottom, left, and right.

Someone please clarify this? Can the T240HD do this if you do a just scan of the input at 720p?

Anyone clarify my last post for me? Looking to get one but don't want to drop the cash if I'm going to want to return it...

i think what you said about the 1:1 mapping and the black frame around the picture is right, to be sure ill check my samsung tv tomorrow that also has the just scan feature, it should be the same principle.

Hi there.I intend to buy a T240HD . Is that o good choice for PC using ? I mean games, internet, movies. And i want to connect my xbox 360 on it. What would you suggest ?

So,i have it. It's great. I love this monitor. The only problem is,i don't know how to "calibrate" the colours,i mean all the monitor setings,to get a good picture.

When i open the monitor menu (not the TV menu),after i go to Pictures Option,i have Colour Tone , R G B and Size. I only can acces Colour Tone and Size , but i can't acces the R G B . What am i doing wrong ?

White_Dove- Depending on what type of connection you have(HDMI, DVI, etc.) you will have limited access to some of the settings.

I have DVI. Do you know something about Spyder2 Pro ? Hardware calibration tool. Is that good ? Does it calibrate the colours, and everything? Is HDMI better than DVI connection ? I tried VGA-VGA,and i can change the RGB,but someone said that the VGA isn't as good as DVI. One more question. Can i disable somehow all the functions for the TV tuner? I don't use the TV for the moment. Is there a good software tool for colours/ brightness / contrast / settings ? Except the software from the monitor driver ( Magic Tune )

Picked up a T240HD yesterday, and am quite pleased with it. Buy.com had them for $290 shipped earlier today, but they sold out quick (slickdeals effect). Newegg still has em for $300 shipped though.

what do you guys think about the brightness? That was the only complaint i saw in earlier reviews.

I have had my T260HD for about half a year. The only thing that I don't like is the touch sensitive power button. Besides that, its awesome. HDTV comes in pretty clear with a paperclip. My computer and laptop work fantastic with it. Games look great. Photo editing is also fantastic. Cute overload dot com looks fantastic on it.

Can anyone tell me what "HDMI Black level" is?
I have DVI -DVI cable.
For PC monitor ,if i'd use DVI-HDMI,what does suppose to mean ,the HDMI black level?

Just wondering if anyone who owns this and a PS3 can post some more pics of games running at 720p, preferably in a well-lit room. :p

I'm planning on purchasing this, but some more pics would be nice, really. Thanks.

edit: Some more pics of PS2 games running on this monitor would be great too, from a reasonable distance away of course. ;)

Don't know if its my bad luck or its just like that but this monitor is one of the worst
ever if you asking me can't watch movies on it at all even if i move my head just a bit
the top part of the screen getting dark and you cant imagine what does it look like
when you lay down/watch movies from distance darkness falls lol. Also colors
are oversaturated ghosting, input lag! the question is what is this monitor good for ?
The only decent part of it is the Design.

PROBLEM!!!!

Plug and Play ID's Don't match mine is SAM03F0 his is SAM0425 .... its telling me that its a 22' NOT 24'. It is an EDID issue which means the manufacture who put in the EDID's messed up.

Now to show how I got all this information download this:http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

Hi - I bought the Samsung T220HD and it arrived yesterday, got at a great price, so am happy. No dead pixels. I tried the over the air antenna and it works great in picking up HD. Then I tried my PC connection via DVI, it works good, it picks up my custom resolution. I bought this mainly as a PC monitor, with use later as maybe for HDTV with a gaming system or a bedroom tv.

But need some help:

1. Does anyone have optimal calibration settings to provide best picture quality? If so, please share.

2. This is the most annoying thing about this TV.

T220HD connected to my computer via the DVI connection, but one thing I notice is that the monitor does not shut down when I turn off the monitor, it goes to Power Save mode and the red light just blinks.

How do I make it so that the monitor shuts down when I turn the PC off?

Also, along the same lines how do I make the monitor power up when the PC starts?

Since, once it shuts down, I click the Power Off to get away from the annoying blinking light. In order to power up the monitor I have to power it on again.

Isn't there any method to power it on/off based on the PC start up?

Thanks!!

Would appreciate your input.

Well I called Samsung support and they told me the monitor has its own power supply and that it will go in sleep mode once your shut off your PC - since it isnt receiving any signal, hence the blinking light.

He said unless you turn off the monitor, it will stay in sleep mode.

Which kind of makes sense and i might not have paid too much attention since my Acer W22BD monitor turned a solid yellow light when i turned my PC off. I guess it was in standby mode, except never blinked.

Unless someone here disagrees or knows some other info. Or if someone here knows how to make the blinking light stop or turn solid.

yeah i agree - i guess - i will have to be more efficient and just power off the monitor when done to avoid the blinking.

by the way - has anyone here done some neat calibrations? I am using a antenna for HDTV and would love to see what calibration people have done.

thanks!

Do this monitor or the T260HD broacast the HD television channels in 1080P?

Do this monitor or the T260HD broacast the HD television channels in 1080P?
televsion channels over the air arent 1080p they are 1080i, but for everything else both monitors can do 1080progressive.

Wow I totally forgot I wrote this big review. Anyway I had to adjust my chair, I was at maybe a 10% viewing angle and the top of the screen was much darker than the bottom. Now it is all good.

I can't wait to get my samsung t260hd tomorrow XD anyone know any program that i can use with a mac to calibrate the monitor? thx

i just got my T240HD and i love it! played some TF2, Devil May Cry 4, Counter Strike, Assassin's Creed, and DiRT. awesome monitor (now all i need is to upgrade my pc to play verything at 19x12:)

Just finished watching Watchmen in 1080p and it looked amazing (but i want my ~$4 and my 3 hours back....shit movie).

coming from a 19 to a 24 is a really big difference. since i dont have a PS3 or Xbox360(yet ;)) i canr comment of that.

BTW i bought this of amazon for $299

Some people dont udnerstand that for 80-100$ more you can get an Dell 2408 even i dont really like that monitor is alot nicer then the T240 also its S-PVA and the T240 is TN.

I just bought a new T240HD. Can someone explain what causes the two vertical bright spots that are highlighted in the photo? I haven't seen this on other monitors before. Do other people have this, or is mine defective? The light streaks are most visible on a light background. Thanks.
