The next time you relax in front of your Samsung Smart TV, please put on some clothes. :D That’s the word out of the Black Hat security conference referencing the real possibility of someone hacking into your TV and taking over control of your remote….and your camera.

There is built in camera in samsung smart tv?

What purpose does it serve other than monitoring what viewers are doing?

On the E series (2012) the camera can be rotated up until you see a green circle and will then not be in use.

On the F series (2013) the camera is a like a push button and pops up. If it isn't popped up then it isn't one.

All cameras are in the center top of the screen. I'm sure it will be patched soon enough.

This. Bought the TV for the display not the silly and mostly useless 'smart' features.

I'm not sure who decided that TVs needed webcams but it's got to be the single most useless feature ever. Seriously, did we run out of worthwhile features and now they're just sticking in whatever random idea falls out of their ass so they can justify boosting the prices up on the new models year after year?

Does every "news" story need to be about someone watching/spying on you lately (not just here but everywhere)?

Because it's popular to be paranoid right now. It used to be popular to talk about social media or what Apple was doing. Before that, it was popular to talk about something else. Society drifts from being collectively infatuated with one thing or another. Give it time and it'll pass, but you'll get to see a lot of (perhaps too much of) something else that gets old and annoying.

    1. website exploit it has to be able to goto the site with the rootkit on it.
    2. Samsung application backdoor

if those aren't met there is no way they can access the camera :) .

This whole camera talk reminds of the malware that pretends to be the FBI collecting a fine and turns on your webcam displaying an image of you on the screen. I get at least one call a month to remove this on laptops, but if something like it happened on a tv I'm pretty sure my customers would crap a brick.

It is not just TVs getting "hacked"... what about your Smart Toilet?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23575249

IMHO it is wrong saying "Hacked" as this is just exploiting the weak programming of the device. What idiot setup a PIN to be 0000 and not changeable?
