Looked at my android phone bluetooth setting and I saw "Samsung 3D TV" under devices that can be paired. I wonder is it similar to the 8000 series Samsung 3D TVs that let you control it using apps? I rather use my touch screen to change the setting than using the capacitive button on the LCD.

Thanks NCX, really appreciated.

I'll be getting this monitor after all.

Where can i buy one?

If your in America, only way you buy one is to order it from a Canadian store. I just did last week. It is actually not that much more expensive to do this.

I do not think anybody knows an ETA on availability in America.

Thanks, They do have the product listed on Samsungs American website so i think the release is imminent.

I received my S27A950 a few days ago. One thing I noticed on mine is that the screen will not move totally vertical. It is always tilted back a little bit. Do others find the same?

I do not see it listed anywhere on Samsungs US website. I went through all the monitors. Could you send a link?

I'm actually unable to play Left 4 Dead 2 using Tridef with this monitor. I get an absolutely insane amount of crosstalk.

The picture also seems to be distorted.

Crysis 2 is also unplayable... There seems to be some weird effect applied to the image; If you look at the gun, there's a weird effect that hides portions of it. It's really hard to explain.

Anyone else experienced this ?

Thanks

Any know? Does Samsung(or any other manufacturer) have any 120Hz PLS displays in the pipeline, which have VESA mount screw holes and a uniform bezel? Preferably with a non-glossy screen.

<15 120hz TN's exist now.

Doubtful if we will even see 120hz IPS panels in 2 years, let alone be annouced. 120hz PLS will be even further off.

Hi,

i received mine yesterday, i am beginer in 3d mode so i am trying to setup my screen !
I use a nvidia base card so i can only do side-by-side. i plug my display with D-dvi.

My question is i have crosstalk on all 3d stuff, like movie, game.

In side-by-side with nvidia card can i do something to remve crosstalk or i will got always crosstalk ???
And if i buy ati base card, for the sequential mode do i will get crosstalk ??

Thank to your answer

PS: i am french so sorry to my bad english ^^

I went to the samsung store in NYC/AOL building and they had a 27inch 950 on display and the 23" 750 (computer monitor). I wasn't able to test them out well since the display was fixed and content as well. I watched one guy play xbox on the 23" monitor and it looked really nice. I thought (for a TN) the viewing angles were pretty good, and I could learn to tolerate them in exchange for 120hz. No way to really look for uniformity though.

Anyhow, I asked the rep if they were for sale in the US (not yet) and if there is an ETA (no known release date).

Anyhow both form factors look pretty good.

Just adding data.

Got mine yesterday, it is awsome for 2d 120hz. I have not tried 3d yet.
I am sensitive to ghosting, and this monitor has no noticable ghosting. I also love the glossy screen.

The default colors seem very good. I have always calibrated my monitors using spyder2pro. Should this monitor also be calibrated?

From my experience, calibration always made the monitors look a million times better.

I calibrated mine and it ruined the black level. It comes nearly perfectly set out of the box in stabdard mode, just need to change the gamma to mode 3 and turn down the green a bit.

Please ncx or someone can awnser me ??

This is my screen =>

But this photo is realy useless because when i watch my screen it is realy black not like this photo ....

I can see only a little bleeding on the left side but its very small.

Today is my last day to return my screen or not, dont know yet what i can do T_T ....

I guess if it doesn't bother your eyes, and is otherwise pixel perfect, its probably as best you can get? There will always be some bleeding.

So you decided to keep your samsung after all?

It seems that the biggest problem is the proprietary nature of these monitors. Samsung has a pretty face but is hamstrung by the fact that having 3rd party drivers puts 3 different companies in the mix to point fingers at each other when things don't go right. Acer/Nvidia has a less than elegant exterior, but is taking the "MAC-like" approach inthat everything is handled by Nvidia. I am holding off waiting to see if ASUS is going to address the issue for both Nvidia and AMD users in their 27" offering.(yes I know their 23.6" is bundled with Nvidia glasses). If they are compatible with both platforms then they have my $$$ and probably a lot of others also. Since they offer both Nvidia and AMD video cards it would seem like a wise choice for them. Maybe that is what is taking them so long to release. If they ae doing his they may need a "different" set of glasses for AMD users and a way to "switch modes". I can not see them making drivers for Nvidia glasses to make them compatible for AMD users and most likely ticking off Nvidia for their effort.

Anyway, this is all speculation from my frustration with the whole thing. In the mean time last week I bought a Viewsonic VX2265XM for $150 and some Nvidia glasses/emitter for $60. When the dust settles a bit I will get a 27". I can easily get my $$$ back for what I paid for the S3D setup. Right now I am hoping for a better AMD solution. If it doesn't come by Christmas at the latest I will probably sell my AMD cards and go with ACER. (AND A MONTH LATER AMD WILL ANNOUNCE THEY HAVE PURCHASED TRIDEF/DDD OR WILL HAVE A UNIFIED SOLUTION)

That is just the way my luck is!!! LOL

Ok I just got mine today. I have only had time to look at the glasses so far and I find it amusing how easy it is to not realize they put the battery with the cleaning cloth and not in the glasses. So I make you wonder how many people will try running the monitor in 3d mode with the glasses turned off.

I'm torn between the S27A950 and the Asus VE278q - I'm mostly concerned with the sharpness of the picture and text. Does NCX or anyone else have an opinion on what would be best for office work? Thanks ;)

If you are just reading text you don't need a 120hz screen, it would be a complete waste of $. I find that glossy screens are the best for reading, check out the HP 2711x, you can get 2 for the price of one 950D, and 2>1 for work productivity.

^^ Unfortunately, I'm in Australia and we don't get the 2711x model out here, or the 2509b that you reviewed (we get the 2509p for some reason). Do have you another suggestion?

I should mention that I do like to play the odd FPS game too :p
(sorry for the minor thread derail)

Too expensive, the 3d is forced on you as part of the tacked on price. I don't want to pay a $200 premium for something i'll never use.

Im just not enough of an enthusiast anymore.

More info...

The center button on the arrow pad is the input select (for some reason mine was not configured out of the box for auto select so it was stuck on HDMI for a while till I figured it out. The input mode swaps form HDMI -> DP -> DVI.) I only tested DVI input so far on a HD6970 with out any drivers (tridef or monitor)

Interestingly enough the 3D modes will engage with out the glasses being active or detected

Holding power on the glasses will result in a glass connected message. Then if the screen does not darken to indicate 3D mode you can tap the glasses power button and the screen will dull and the shutters will enabled.

I only played around with 2d-3d conversion for World of Warcraft and some assorted image files on my computer. I am fairly impressed with the 2D-3D image conversions processing ( I don’t really have any past 3D experience beyond movies and such so you can take my impression so far as a grain of salt in that regard). It if an image has really good shading its able to get the shapes quite clearly. Other wise it only able to provide slight depth by just detecting the layers in the image. As far as I can tell cell shaded or hand drawn images will only really get basic layer detection for 3d if at all but you can't expect much of anything under those conditions as well.

I just ordered three of these badboys for an eyefinity setup. Will post pics tomorrow when everything arrives.

I now have three of these set up in eyefinity and they look BEAUTIFUL!

I only have a crappy camera on my phone so I'll wait until I can borrow a friend's before I upload pics. Expensive but well worth it. The colour reproduction is amazing.

When in the world is SAMSUNG going to release these things in the US?

It's getting a bit rediculous now, concerning them not releasing any new info on when they will be released here.

Are there any alterative's to this monitor?

I think they are using other markets as test markets and when the "revised" monitor is deemed acceptable they will release it here in the US. JUST MY OPINION. The Samsung tv's are amazing so I do not thiink thet want to ruin their reputation with a product this market may be more critical of than others markets.

They are also catering to the AMD/ATI crowd. There seems to be more issues since AMD/ATI is not as directly involved as Nvidia was with ACER. I am an ATI fan(see my sig). I am waiting for a good solution becaust these cards are no slouches but on the open market not worth much to switch over. I am using my GTX460 to run S3D on a viewsonic VX2265wm Until a solution comes out I can live with for ATI cards OR untill I just can not stand it anymore and breakdown and go Nvidia.

It is my hope that ASUS will finally release their promised 27" monitor (this fall)that can address some of these issues for AMD/ATI users (1.as well as being compatible with Nvidia), (2.having a Displayport connection).
