Other times it goes back to 4g lte or 5g.

Why does it only stay connected to wifi sometimes ?

It is not my phone but one of my family member's phones. My iPhone and one of my other family members older Samsung S10 works fine.

So I don't think it is the router.

Question - are the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks using the same SSID?

5Ghz has an inherently shorter range than 2.4Ghz. It might be that your family member's phone is only trying to connect to the 5Ghz network, and occasionally exceeding it's range, while the other phones are switching to 2.4Ghz.

Sorry, did a ninja edit. Basically 5Ghz has an inherently shorter range than 2.4Ghz. It might be that your family member's phone is only trying to connect to the 5Ghz network, and occasionally exceeding it's range, while the other phones are switching to 2.4Ghz.

Check the Intelligent WiFi settings, probably has switch to mobile data on. My S22 is disrupted every time I roam from one node to the other on the mesh network at home if that is on. It's about as intelligent as a rock imo
