I've owned a Lenovo Explorer, Rift, and Oculus Go as well as this Odyssey+. I can highly recommend this one. Yes, there are new headsets coming out (Rift S for $400) for example. That said, the visual quality on the Odyssey+ is likely still going to be better due to its OLED screen (according to news reports Rift S is using the same LCD display as the Oculus Go). Samsung does make the best OLED screens too. Its just a great value at $300 compared to the other devices currently available.

Hmm... super tempting, debating between this and the Rift S. This will have the better screen but I think the rift S will have way better tracking due to the 5 cameras.

I bought a used one on Ebay for $72. With a broken ear piece, fixed it and I'd have to say this is much better than the Rift.

Is it really much of a debate? The Rift S is a better headset. More comfortable, better tracking and larger sweet spot.

the new HP reveal looks to be the nicest....

I own 2 O+ and the older HP WMR headset. Never bought a Rift or Vive due to the outside in tracking requirements

I believe you meant to say HP Reverb, not HP Reveal. While I can understand some folks not having the room/space or the aesthetic desire to setup external sensors, when in comes to performance and functionality, outside-in tracking is still the most precise/accurate and solid form of VR tracking for HMDs and their controllers. That may change as tech continues to improve, but its the case right now, especially when it comes to hand controllers. I'll be curious to see if the Valve Index will offer combined/hybrid approach options. The Knuckle controllers definitely still need lighthouses.

For the current sale pricing on the Odyssey yes it is, right now it's on sale for about 3/4 the cost of what the rift s will be ($299 for the Odyssey vs the rift s @ $399). It's hard to choose without seeing the rift s in action first hand.

Yeah you are right on all accounts.

I have my rigs setup as mobile stations to move through high school classrooms and labs.

I have touchscreen monitors on a rolling stand with a PC strapped to the back.

It is an all in one system that is usable for teachers and students.

Outside in tracking is more accurate but a PITA to setup in a different environment on a daily basis

I bought one. The $300 deal was too good to pass up.

I know the tracking is probably worse, but I don't really like having sensors/stations/wires all over the room.

i find the tracking in front of you to be fine...

now out of the FOV of the cameras is a different story but more games and such you use your heads in front of you anyways so it does not come in to play all that often

I tend to agree. While I think the Rift-s will be good at its price, it is still 25% more, has a lower rez screen with no anti screen door effect (afaik), is only LCD and only 80Hz with no physical eye adjustment and no real headphones.
On the other hand it may be more comfortable (Odyssey required an add on padding for me) and have a larger sweet spot possibly (yet to be determined)?
I own the Samsung and do not regret it. Who could at that price? But I am a sim player (Project Cars 2/IL2-Sturmovik) but maybe if I was a run around the room bows & arrows the extra cams on the Rift-s might have an advantage for tracking. Odyssey+ has also served me well in those regards, but the Rift-s should be better.

FYI, If you are Canadian buy the Odyssey+ through the MicroSoft store. They honor the sale in CAN$ with free shipping. It is near impossible to order them otherwise (Can't get them through Samsung Canada and Samsung USA won't ship as well as B&H. Why I don't know. Amazon and Ebay are massively over priced.

Bought one of the last ones at the Mall Of Millenia here in Florida, great deal! Have not tested it out yet - probably tomorrow.
