Samsung is set to unveil the new Galaxy S9 and S9+ next week at Mobile World Congress 2018. Attendees of the show, and those wishing to view the event's livestream were encouraged to download an app called Unpacked 2018. Hidden away in the app is an Augmented Reality feature that allows people to scan the Samsung logo or box to see some teasers, a reddit user was able to decompile the app and find 3d models of the new Galaxy S9 hidden within. The full set of pictures can be found on XDA Developers.

It looks like a Samsung Galaxy. Woo. At least the Bixby button is still there for all you Bixby fans.

This modification was not easily done, though, as the models are not inside the actual app but available on Samsung’s website. Thus, it required a modification to the Unpacked 2018 app and a proxy to download the 3D models. However, /u/thesbros was able to get it done, and we were able to access the Augmented Reality 3D models in order to show off what the Samsung Galaxy S9 will look like.

the orchid grey was a terrific color for the S8, why don't they have it at launch...

If Samsung would just release a version of their phones that out of the box supported LineageOS, I'd never buy another phone.

They make good hardware. They should stop trying to dabble in the software, because they stink at it, and even if they were good at it, it's better to NOT have software feature differentiation in the ROM. Leave that up to apps.

Is it just me, or was the dual- glass design of the iPhone4 the best smartphone design ever?

I'd argue that the dual glass was one of the worst things about the iPhone 4. Why on earth make it fragile on BOTH sides?

I had the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G and then the iPhone 4 which was my final iPhone.

I liked it at the time, but was frustrated with constantly having to use iTunes. Now, going back to the iPhone 4 (we still have one in the kitchen hooked up to the kitchen speakers to play music) the screen is frustratingly small.

There were bixby fans? lol

I had to google Bixby as I didn't know what it was.

Personally, if all of the digital assistants (Amazon Alexa / Google Assistant / Apple Siri / Microsoft Cortana / Samsung Bixby) were to just die in a fire, I'd be a much happier person.

Heck, I'd throw gasoline on that fire.

If they made an iPhone in the same style as the iPhone4 only with a 7 inch retina screen, I'd go back to Apple.

Lol. 7" Huge pockets must be huge.

Personally I refuse to buy any phone that I can't hold in one hand, with the bottom corner firmly in the center of my palm, while I reach the top opposite corner of the screen with my thumb.

Even with my rather large hands, this means pretty much anything above 5" is out of the question.

Grow man sized hands

I one hand an iPhone 6+ WITH a mophie case

Apparently if Samsung decided to include a dedicated button yet again after all the initial hate lol
No, it is Samsung pulling an MS and deciding what we are going to get because they know what is best for us. Bixby is still a PITA, there is no way to turn it all the way off in a stock S8, S8+, Note8, (both the button and the screen just left of the home screen), unless you use a package manager to utterly disable it like I have.

I'm all for it if they let you reprogram the dedicated button heh.
They don't. Unless you go with a third party kluge app.

Think I will be skipping the 9 series myself. I doubt it will be significantly better than the 8 series. Unless they bring back flat screens, removable batteries, and allow us to disable Bixby, and retask, or at least turn off, it's button.

Highly sustainable.

well..
1) you pass it on to a recycler in a 1st world country
2) they pass it on to another company 'specializing' in recycling phones
3) 'recycler' then pass it on to a 3rd world 'specialist'
4) '3rd world' specialist then sell it to someone who buys waste in bulk (container full)
5) bulk buyer dumps it in some african country like the above, whom take fees for allowing such dumping practices
6) local thug then hires some slave workers to strip materials from the above
7) whatever was scrapped gets sold in bulk to a regional bulk buyer
8) bulk buyer sells to a local plant

so...who do you blame? the UN?

I blame everyone, myself included for continuing the short-sighted delusion that we can go on this way forever. Stop wanting, stop making.

Do not blame me, I have not thrown out a single solitary smart phone, at all. (I did have to properly recycle an HTC phone that straight up no longer worked but, not sure it would have been classified as a smart phone.) That was 6 years ago or so.

I'm actually looking to get it, I just need the camera reviews first.

So excited for this because that means only 6 more months until the Note 9. Getting tired of holding onto my S7 Edge, lol.
