samsung 950 pro m.2 512gb ($315 currently) vs samsung 960 evo m.2 500gb ($249)

$250 for the new 500GB evo? wth?

I'd buy the 850 evo for $160 because I doubt the performance improvement is worth a 56% price increase.

holy cow.. i didn't realize the new ssds were so fast!
3200 MB/s writing, and 1900 MB/s reading. It manages 380,000 and 360,000 IOPS, reading and writing.

Still, would you actually notice a difference? does your use need that much speed?
Or would you rather have 1TB?

i already have a 950 pro m.2 256gb (on a lycom dt-120 adapter). i also have a WD black 4tb for my games.

i guess this purchase is mainly for fast cloning (sick of broken windows updates, etc.)

so get the evo then. news release says the 960 evo is faster than the 950 pro, and if you're bent on getting the 960, I don't see why you need bleeding edge speed just for windows backups.

I'll be looking at the 1TB 960 Evo for work. It'll be replacing the Intel 730 (I think) 480gb SATA 3 in an esx host.

Maybe.
