is it safe? i'm worried about the effects of non-magnectically shielded things put next to each other. sry if it may sound stupid, but i don't want to ruin a nice monitor, and an expensive HT receiver.

Just spot check. Put them next to each other for a few moments, if no ill effects, then
don't worry about it.

Had my receiver under my monitor shelf for about a year, no ill effects on either piece. Like Frodo said, try cranking the reciever and checking for any distortion or anything odd. If you don't see anything you should be ok, but keep an eye on it just in case.

If you do not see any color changes or a wavy image on your monitor you should be fine. If there is not sufficient shielding in your monitor OR the reveiver you will notice a rainbow color effect that shows up on your monitor.
