safe/proper auto shut down of UPS attached computer

just bought a couple of tripp lite, my question is how to auto shut the computer properly after the battery drains out when the computer is not attended by the user, is there any software or setting to be applied to enable the computer shuts down itself when the UPS battery level reachs to the end?

dont those things usually come with a usb cable or serial cable that connects to the computer to report the battery life and when it should shut down?

APC UPS's come with cables & software on CD, your's should, too!

mine didnt come with any software, only usb cable

any third party free program instead the one offered by the tripp lite which costs $125?
