Which is the better motherboard for a PC that will have a custom loop, FX-9590 at
the highest clocks I can get at 1.6v-1.7v, one R9 295X2 in CrossFire with two 290Xs (295X2+290X+290X).

Well the Crosshair has an extra 4 pin power connector for the cpu so you will get more juice from that one, so in theory more overclock. But if you are throwing that much gpu power at something why are you not looking at 2011 boards that give you multiple 16x slots for your cards?

Asus also recommends cooling the vrm in its own loop for maximum potential overclock. An additional enhancement to facilitate better overclocking is to place a fan at the back of the mobo, blowing on the cpu socket and vrm. Still the best you may achieve is 5.2ghz. There's a user on this forum using phase change cooling and I think the best he was able to wring out of his fx 9590 was 5.3ghz. From what I can tell, my 9370 at 5ghz is about even with my 3770k at 4.5ghz. For two gpus 5ghz is fine but beyond that many high end gpus you won't see any framerate improvement without something like a 2011 socket platform near 5ghz which means you'll need the 9590 to sit somewhere between 5.5 to 6ghz.

If you're going to send 1.6v+ to an AMD processor you're going to need a Crosshair and a TON of cooling power. And it's going to max out in the lower 5's like rennyf77 said. You might as well grab a 5820K if you're going to run (4) 290X.

im running now at 5420+ Mhz ...... Im Freon ss phase.changed cooled, it runs HOT
I would get the CH5-Z board if you have 9590, I have had mine for a long time, it runs really really fast.....at default its still super fast your water cooling yes? :)
