Many players here so I'm curious to read what you have to say. I'm on hold to play because I,m currently building a new setup so yet I only took a quick look at it but glad I didn't go furthur since the saved games of v1.0000 does not wotk in v1.0001

So what else is different that the 66 listed in the readme?

I read you can sell item and see then in marchant inventory, right from start you can buy items (if you got the money), stealth works now, etc.

EDIT: oops, just saw another thread about the patch. Too bad I cannot delete my own thread when there is no reply yet!
 
I HATE that previous version saved games do not work, you have to delete all your saved games before using this patch :(

I guess with all the problems some were having with the quicksave and save they had to rewrite the file structure. Why they haven't looking into a conversion I don't know.
 
Where is the patch listed.
WTF you cant use a saved game, man I've been at this since last Thursday and I'm only at the Brain Scorcher part......guess I'll have to finish before I patch.:eek:

Heh, these last make me chuckle. It's like whoever was writing either got fed up with typing them out, or was told to hurry up and finish it up so they could upload it to the servers.

I'm going to be picking this up probably on Thursday, so i guess i'll get to experience the game differently from everyone else so far. From what i've read on here so far, that sounds like a good thing. I'm tempted to wait for patch #2 before installing, but it sounds like this fixes the majority of the problems people have been having.
 
At least I wasn't crazy about the keys/buttons sticking with certain things (running for me)...

I think running is supposed to be like that. Mine works like an on/off thing. I hit x and run, then hit x again when I'm done to stop, instead of having to hold it down. Seems to work fine for me. I haven't noticed any other oddities with sticking keys.

Yup. Thats how it works for me, too.
I have to finish game #1 before patching, but really I havent got many issues, except some of the quests being complete dead ends.

This game is really good, IMO.:D

Doesn't look like any Vista issues were resolved in this patch...at any rate, my game still freezes for a few seconds every couple minutes and then resumes.
 
I run vista and have once had a crash or anything, played for like 4 hours straight, paused the game made dinner came back and played about an hour later for another 3 hours. Works fine in vista for me.

Do you have the lighting maxed out? I hear it's tied to that.
 
just had the object one, full dynamic makes it run to chunky for my tastes, when I get home I will try messing with the settings once I patch... I want to patch but I am gonna miss my AK with DMG & Rate of Fire mods along w/ both a scope and gernade launcher on it.
 
Dynamic lighting actually causes a performance hit on my machine. After installing the patch, I found the game to be even less stable than before. Now it crashes so often I can't even play it. No other game on my machine crashes and no other game on my system has any issues to speak of, it's just with STALKER.
 
Posted in the other thread but anyways, I don't know why on earth they do not list the MAJOR single player changes in the readme, but:

1. Damage model has been tweaked, for example the bandits now take just 2-3 hits to kill.

2. The traders now sell useful things, like the first trader sells a Stalker suit, merc suit, shotgun ammo, the viper smg, etc. Plus when you trade him items, those items show up on his inventory now. (like they did when you traded with other stalkers).

Your suits now degrade as well (which in turn also takes down their stats), there is a guy in the game who can repair them for a cost though.

3. The AI has been tweaked, you can now hide and use stealth a lot better, the enemies no longer see you as easily/quickly.

4. Performance tweaks, mainly the memory cache issue.

Before the patch I had to turn to the game down to medium settings and slide the texture/obect detail down to around half and put shadow quality at about 70%. Otherwise with textures at high and such I got a looooooooot of hard drive swapping, literaly I couldn't turn around otherwise it was a slideshow of loading.

Now after the patch I run at high settings, with almost maxxed out sliders in the object/grass/texture detail, full shadow quality, and grass shadows on. It plays as smooth as it did on medium before the patch.

The reason is that the game wasn't using the memory/cache right. you could alt tab and see it sayin the game was using 2-300mb of memory, but it was usin your page file for the main part, and thus led to the loading issues/slowdowns. Now it uses the actual physical memory instead and no more hard drive swapping.


Overall this is an Excellent patch and one that's worth restarting imo.

Well this patch is aggravating me. The 5.1 audio is fixed, but it now crashes right when I try to cross the first road to do the first mission. It never did before, ever, so this is wicked frustrating.
 
What I don't like about this lifechains......we have the same friggin VIDEO CARD!!!!!!

Sorry, but this game is on my short list. Crashes galore. Hit ESC to save game and CTD (Crash to Desktop). Hit F6 for quicksave, crash to desktop. Breathe on your monitor, crash to desktop. I dig the concept of the game and the visuals, but running the same damn mission of saving the guy with the USB key 6 times, only for it to crash again gets very annoying.

I've had a few compatibility issues with other games that were solved by turning off UAC fixed most of them. Not with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. the game aint quite completely baked and ready for prime time for Vista users.
 
Wow - Dynamic lighting has a performance hit (you mean you notice?). I thought it was just my rig and maybe I needed more cpu power and /or another GTX. BTW after patch I get strange artifacts when it rains (WTF?)

Dynamic lighting actually causes a performance hit on my machine. After installing the patch, I found the game to be even less stable than before. Now it crashes so often I can't even play it. No other game on my machine crashes and no other game on my system has any issues to speak of, it's just with STALKER.
 
ok so now I get better performance, can use full dynamic lighting, more missions work.. but now.. I can only quick save (F6) and when I try to normal save, it crashes :( oh well

They are supposed to have a Vista Compatibility patch in the works.

anyone notice any performance imprvment when using dynamic lighting? I need to know this before i start a new game with this patch.

I did, but I am on vista, so it went from 20-25fps full dynamic to 35-40 full dynamic.. but I am save CTD only when I do not use quick save, which sorta sucks but I can deal with it. Hopefully the next patch will be compatible with this patch's save games.
 
Vista, installed the patch, I still only see the skybox, everything maxed no slowdown, except all I see is the skybox.
 
No issues with the patch for me. Seems just as stable as before(never crashed at all) if not a little better performance wise. Im not sure if they changed anything with the aiming, but it either takes less hits to bring a guy down or Im just getting better :)

Only played it for a few minutes though, got past the first level and into the junkyard fight. WIll have to play some more when I get off work tomorrow.
 
No crashes here at all. I had increased performance on Object Dynamic and medium settings from the 20s - 30s fps, to 30s to 40s (on high settings with anisotropic filtering turned all the way up!) with the new patch. The game is still frustrating in killing the bandits, but it is easier now than before. Quick save games work well and load fine. I still get occasional stuttering here and there, but for me it doesn't bother me as much since the game doesn't crash anymore.

All in all, this patch has been worthwhile for me. Then again, I made sure I didn't get far anyways until this patch came. ;)
 
Better performance here too. Load pauses are way down and framerate is up. Now running 1152/864 with everything (bar grass shadows) on, and shadow/lighting sliders at about 2/3rds up.
 
I now get much better performance in Vista, I no longer notice any signs of chop. Coming out the the bunker at the beginning I get about 35fps staring at the door in the house across the field, in XP I only get 30. That doesn't sound liek much but it was enough to keep my eyes from noticing any chop throught the beginning area, whereas before I would notice it from time to time.

67.Broke all your saves, ya we know , after years of PC gaming we should have found a way (like most programmers) to avoid the deletion of saved files considering you dumped hours and hours into getting somewhere only to be told by some douche programmer you need to start all over again if you want a bug fix/multiplayer support.Thanks alot there THQ btw go die in a fire ok? great thanks.
