The entire time I played through the game, I think I had one singular crash.

I had a couple freezes in the earlier missions, but since the patches it's been great, not one crash, freeze since.

I guess I will also ask the obvious question.... I see you are on a 9800X3D, are you using PBO and are you ABSOLUTELY sure it is 100% stable? When I was tuning my 9950X3D, I would sometimes get a DX Error crash in BO6, thought drivers and whatnot. Looked up the error in system log and googled the type, and it led me to believe my PBO was not 100% stable (basically the code was saying the video card was dropping from communicating with the CPU for a split point in time). Dialed back my CO ever so slightly, have not had a single issue in a game ever since.

Yes my PBO is stable (that is how I dialed it in). This was definitely the game or drivers as it started with the drivers (before the new ones that came out). I turned off FG and haven't had the issue.
Prior to that I have 40 hours in the game with same PBO and even same undervolt curve (once I got the 5090). I don't know what else to blame except a patch or drivers. Other thing can be the 3 mods I am using - free repairs, 4x sprint and zero weight for consumables.
 
I thought I'd share this link on artifacts, I have the compass, hypercube, weird water, and now going after the thunderberry in my second play through. I had all of these in my first play through but not until later in the game, also you will have take some time to farm these, weird water you have to just search for it in the wandering lights location (the rest of the locations for the others you will have to find using Youtube like i did). All of these will help you a lot in getting through the game, especially the later half. Personally i would get the weird water asap, it will increase your weight limit to 120 and help you travel a lot quicker, it does have a drunken effect but I got used to it, also it has no radiation to worry about. You will have to find a way to offset the radiation of the others which is maximum, you can get a SEVA-D (which is very good) suit early on in the cement factory zone, have the tech at the cement factory base upgrade one of your artifact slots to have lead shielding and you can carry one of the artifacts there, the rest you'll have to find a way to offset the radiation or get a better suit that can have more lead containers, my suggestion would be the PSZ-91 Falcon. I'm using PBO and an offset of -20 on my 9800X3D and it’s fine, I would look at he drivers. The latest is 576.40, NV has had a lot of issues with their drivers, especially regarding the 5000 series.
 
Yes, I had a lot of crashes the last couple of missions, especially during large gun fights and when I had my inventory open.I literally had to speed through the last couple of missions as I was so frustrated with all the crashes and just wanted to finish up the damn game. I almost wonder if certain things corrupt save files that lead to these crashes?

Thanks for confirming. It is strange because until those missions everything was fine.
Only changes were drivers tbh. But I have read a few threads since my post that many people suffered crashes towards last 1/3 of the game.
I want to rush and finish it but I forget every time I on my PC that I need to play it. lol.

Before two of the latest patches I got through it with only two freezes early in the game, everything afterwards went great. I'm actually on my 2nd playthrough now and still finding new places I missed.
 
The new patch made the combat more challenging on veteran difficulty. Better AI and much more efficient killers. It pays to stay alert and not get caught with your pants down. Without cover you are dead in seconds. I like it.

Several years ago i would play on that setting, but due to my left hand becoming partially crippled to neuropathy, I play on rookie.

you didn't finish the game?...once I start a game I always finish it...starting it, playing it to the Halfway point and then putting it to the side for 3- 4 months is not something I do...when I restart it again I would not be in rhythm anymore and would need to restart from the beginning again to feel comfortable with the movement, layout etc

Lol, no...I start a lot of games, finish some of them. Kinda depends on if something more interesting comes along...

I've been trying to go back and finish stuff lately, but with Stalker 2 it seems like it's just going to get better as more patches come out.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
  • Storage: 12 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: Graphics Preset: MAXIMUM; Resolution: 1080p; Target FPS: 60
I would think an i5-6500 and 2060 should be able to play it at maxed (or close to it) 1080p/60 as indicated there.

This wasn't on my radar at all and was only alerted to it from DF's console patches tested.

Which prompted me to install and play it for 20 mins or so, since I haven't played this since near-launch despite loving the game at the time. I honestly figured my 5800X3D/12GB 3080 would be able to play it maxed out at near 240hz of my monitor, but in outdoor areas it actually drops to below 100 FPS, hah. Which is fine of course.. also be sure to disable FSR, which was enabled by default for me. Would be cool if they added DLSS, but really not needed here either.

Yes, these two darn similiar threads. In this instance, I was actually describing STALKER 2, got confused. Which will not run very well at all on my current rig . Yes, the enhanced original "should" run fine, but more I read, the more I'm backing out of purchasing.
