S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

I'm assuming that the ray tracing will improve lighting and shadows but I could be wrong. They have stated that they will release a ray tracing upgrade and official mod tools in the future. The DLC content is already available for pre order and you can see some of the DLC locations on the world map of the current build.

STALKER 2 roadmap for Q2 2025.

Surprised to see that mutants don't currently drop loot. Can you at least skin them like you can in anomaly?

Well this is just for Q2 of 2025 so it will probably come later. I hadn't heard of the original trilogy update either and it will be interesting to see what they do with it. The DLC and raytracing will probably come toward the end of the year if I had to guess. This looks promising though. The developer is intent on improving the AI and releasing the mod tools which are the biggest ones on my list. Most of this stuff they don't have to do and many developers wouldn't do so I'm happy to see it.

No you can't. It's like the first two games but there is a mod that adds the ability that works pretty great. It's nice to see they will officially add it at some point and that means they will be forced to rebalance the economy. I'm hoping for a super hardcore mode.

Bullet holes on bodies was broken with the 1.3 patch. The developers are aware of it and have already fixed it for the next patch. They have also stated that night vision will be officially added into the game at some point. This was confirmed by one of the developers on facebook.

It's been a great game, I have almost 200 hours in and enjoyed every minute. Unfortunately I'm on the very last mission, so I'm heavily armed and all geared up for the final battle.
Yeah I loved the originals and anomaly (will probably replay that now that I have a better gaming rig). Will definitely play STALKER 2 when it's better patched up

Check it out, a couple things i found in Pripyat, not really a spoiler but I don't want to ruin any surpise for anybody who is looking for them.
I thought this was cool, I found the claw of death and the firefighters boots and clothing, both remain highly radioactive to this day.

It's part of the core gaeme rogression, getting better gear. Night vision is a must.
After some time in game I just stopped playing at night when possible. You miss so much at night because you can't see jack. I also installed a mod to increase the day/night hours. If I was leaving a base I'd lay up until daytime to head out.

Plus it scares the crap out of me at night.

What i love about night visi9n in anamoly is (what my imagination at least perceives) the advantage it gives me over enemies without
Which reminds me, I should reinstall that mod and play it again

It is a bit strange that night vision is missing from this game. It was there even for SoC.

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if the flashlight in HoC actually behaved like an actual flashlight. Apparently light fades from existence once it's about 5 feet from you. There's enough light outside at night that it doesn't bother me. But get inside and it's a completely different story.

Also, I find the transition effect from going inside to outside during the day a bit overdone.

I am getting bored af from this game. I am supposed to go to some hospital but there is of course PSI nonsense so I need to move around to find a path without PSI nonsense just like I had to find a path to a dome without radiation nonsense. Just everything is such a slog now and I looked at the mission list and still about 14/15 missions left. Like wtf. This isn't fun anymore. I mean it never was but I thought I fixed that part but now it is just tedium going from one place to the next fighting the same crap over and over and trying to cheese my way through the game.

Anyways, I think I will continue but I don’t know, it’s just not a good time.
How long is this damn game. It’s not even interesting anymore.

There have been a few games that I've started playing, decided I didn't really like, but ended up completing anyway. Sometimes just to see the ending, sometimes out of misguided hope that they will improve further in, or because of a feeling that the time invested would somehow be wasted if I didn't finish. I don't think I've ever struggled through a game I didn't like for 4 months though. You're stubborn.

I mean it has its moments but honestly it is a slog. I do suffer games over years even. I still have to finish Ghost Recon Breakpoint - I think its been 5 or 6 years to that one?

Sounds like you were never the target audience, but being a masochist, you still trudge on.

I can usually tell which games I like and which ones to stay clear of simply by watching a stream from a gamer I relate to. Rule #1: don't buy into the marketing and hype.

I'm curious though, if Stalker 2 had a playable demo, would it have been enough to convince a full purchase?

I personally like Stalker 2, but if I had my way, I'd have them make it more hardcore like Anomaly or Misery. And if it was indeed like those, you'd find it even more tedious and pointless. Guaranteed.

Different strokes for different folks.

The game is long, especially if you do the side missions and do a lot of exploration. Even some of the main missions have multiple parts to them and are long. I finished the game and had almost 200 hours in. That said I happened to really like the game and found it very fun and scary at times.

My time is too valuable to me to spend hours playing games I don't like. Even if I think that a certain game contains a few good moments, the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'd rather play games that continuously engage me than spend 80+ hours trying to derive enjoyment from 10 of them. Think of the other, more enjoyable games that you could've been playing in those other 70 hours! Especially when most of us are up against massive backlogs thanks to game sales, or I guess Game Pass if you prefer to rent your games.

For many of us, eventually the day comes when we're scrolling through our immense Steam library lists and we realize that between the new games that are constantly coming out, the current list of owned titles that we still need to get to, and the games that we adored and want to play again at some point...we'll never have time to finish them all, realistically. If you're still in your 20s, you may think that you have all the time in the world and that day is extremely far off, but I promise you it isn't as far away as you think it is. Make the most of your time. Play what you enjoy!

I think I have explained my position about the game quite a few times. I didn't play the originals and this is my first Stalker game. It seems to be more "accessible" than previous ones and I am using a couple of mods to avoid the "survival" nonsense - like sprint 4x, consumables with no weight, and zero repair costs.

Even with all those QoL improvements, the game is long and most of all BORING. That is my problem. Early hours had story and something I cared about but now I am just going 1-1.5 KM in a different direction for some little item that then I have to bring back. It is not exciting as enviros remain similar with same enemies. I have not had a single "new enemy" for like 10 hours or more.

Like most games you like it or you don't, I only played the very first Stalker, so i had a idea of what I was getting into. It's too bad more games don't have demos, so you could at least have some idea of what to expect. The thing that sucks is you buy a game for $60+ thinking you will like it, and end up hating it, by then you're well past the several hours of gameplay to get a refund from Steam. I have a few games like that in my library.

I've watched people play the original games and stuff like GAMMA, and it's much of the same - a lot of running around the environment where things may or may not be happening. It's not jam-packed with stuff to see and do like something like Skyrim.

I think I am going to just make everything zero weight including weapons. Game is janky enough to put up with stamina running out bullshit. I just want to finish and park it at this point.
P.S. I didn't pay for this game. I am game passing it and I think I will need to re sub to finish the damn thing at this pace.

Suppose it depends on what else you used these past few months, but you can get the game for $36 or so. If you're paying $30 for two months just for this game, you were better off spending a bit more to keep the game and play at your pace. :p

I subbed 3 years ago and it is running out. I made my money when I finished Halo Infinite and Forza 5. Since then I consider the pass free. 👀

I will also advocate for GAMMA.

One of my best gaming experiences of the past 2 decades

- A very, matured FPS

I've played all of the original games at launch. I played stalker soup, misery, coc, dead air, anomaly and gamma as they were released as well. I've got nothing bad to say about stalker gamma. It's amazing what has been achieved over the years. A couple of points I would like to make is that gamma can look much better than it does after a normal install. Replacing character models and adding many graphical upgrades can be done to push the game to the point where it looks like a modern game. One thing thats not mentioned in the video above is that stalker gamma doesn't have a main story line and the game world feels very small compared to a modern day open world game like stalker 2. The video also ignores that most stuff included in gamma is either already in stalker 2 or can be modded into stalker 2. Gun repairs, random loot variety, hardcore survivial economy, damage, mutant parts ect. The only thing gamma has going for it over stalker 2 in my opinion is a slightly better spawn and tracking system and the mods for stalker 2 are less stable because it's still in development. The points made about traveling the zone with a party are valid if you are into that sort of thing. Personally I want to be alone and always considered those elements for noobs and socialites. Gamma is not too hardcore for me because I have played the series for so long that hardcore survivalism was the only thing left to keep me challenged and interested. Gamma is great but I don't see myself going back to it. Stalker 2 will have it's spawns patched up in the near future and mods for stalker 2 will become more stable in time. Otherwise, it's better than anomaly/gamma in pretty much every way.

Is it normal to have a lot of crashes in the game towards the last few missions. I got some bad crashes in the liaison and mission after that. I thought it was my undervolt but then it crashed even without it.
I have about 9 missions left and it is pissing me off. I disabled frame gen to see if that helped and it was fine after but I haven't really played it for long after that event. Crashes happened in indoor areas usually.
